2010 Australian Supermoto Championships

Just to let everyone know that the Supermoto WA will be again holding the Australian Supermoto Championships for 2010.
We as a club did not think that we would be running this again in 2010, in fact we have just cleared the bills from last years event.
It takes a lot of commitment to put something like this on, both financially and time invested. I envisage that running it in the West for a third time is not the ideal situation for a large percentage of the competitors who would like to compete in a sanctioned national event.

The flip side to this was, not to have a national title in 2010.

Hopefully next year another state will be in the position to carry this on, it would be a shame for the nationals to be lost after all the hard work that has been put in around the country over the last 5-6 years.

We are looking at a date in early December at the Cockburn Kart track – TBC.
This track has just been resurfaced ready for the 2011 Aussie Kart Champs.

Next week we have 2 club members heading off to the first round of World Championships to try and entice some international riders over.

And that is about all we have at present.

With a reasonable amount of lead time before the event we will be looking for a main sponsor, as well as
minor sponsors to assist with the transport of bikes for those who want to travel to Perth.

Last years championship was a brilliant weekend, the action was incredible.

With motards getting more and more popular, it can only get bigger and better. Hopefully all the hard work of yourself and your committee will pay off with a huge crowd.

It is a great opportunity for guys of all levels to compete in a national event along side some top international riders.
It will be the last time it is held in WA for a while so if you own a motard, come along to a few practice nights, enter a club event and join in the Nationals.
All levels will be catered for.

The average age of the WA club must be about 40, so saying that you are to old is not an excuse.

We all look young with a helmet on.

You only live once.

Last year was awesome. Lots of riders from over East plus plenty of local talent. Looking forward to this one to top of the year nicely after Kings.

Will be flagging for this again. Any chance Davide Gozzini and Christian Iddon will attend this year?

Joe Grasso and Larry Hill are heading over to Italy next week to watch the first round of the World championships,as well as to talk to Davide and hopefully a couple more riders.
Christian Iddon has gone to the British Superbikes so he will not be back.
Ivan Lazzarini went to NZ last year so it could be a possibility of him coming over, he is X-games winner as well as Supermoto De-Nations champ.

Some of these guys will come over with there own suspension, engine parts, wheels, tyres and use a donor bike.

So sponsorship is needed to get them over.

I hope to be available for marshalling again, and would encourage anybody interested to put their hand up as well.
Last year we had only about 4-5 flaggies, which left the track rather sparsely manned...

Awesome, it was a great event last year and good to see lots of local talent and support. Hope this continues for 2010 and hope you get some decent sponsors and media coverage.

Finally have some info on the 2010 Nationals.

Dates - 3,4,5th December.
Venue - Collie MotorPlex.

Last minute negotiations fell through with our local kart club and it was decided to host the event south of Perth.
This was only confirmed at a meeting last night.

At present the track does not have any off-road section, this (with the help of a earth moving company owner who come along to last years event) will be constructed over the coming months.
We have a large area to play with and will hopefully end up will 2 awesome dirt sections.

It is roughly 1.6 km around, MA licensed.

There is camping facilities, kitchens, bunk houses, undercover and powered pits.

We now have to finalise / find sponsorships and work out what support we can offer people travelling to this event from other states.

This is a bit of a bugger for us minimoto boys who were keen to be a "support class" at the event. Collie is far too fast for us unless they have done modifications i.e. a slip road in the middle to break the track in half.

We are happy to announce that the 2010 Supermoto Nationals will be held at the Kosteki Motorplex in Collie on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of December
B & J Catalano Pty Ltd will be constructing an awesome off road section through the centre of the track and 2 bitumen extension loops coming off the start finish straight and the back straight.

The sponsor this year will be Striker Crushing & Screening, these guys currently sponsor the "Zap Rat" Manaro doorslammer.

At the moment Davide Gozzini will lead the internationals with competitors coming from NZ, England & Italy.
