    Leather Race Suits

Hi all, I am about to purchace my first full suit and cant realy decide to go the expense and get an AlpineStars purchased from the US or a lesser known brand. I have stumbled accros a suit and other product made by Shogai and imported into Australia giving the opportunity to buy locally and a good price. Does anyone have any experiences with Shogai products ?. All the usual stuff like CE approval, cowhide, titanium pads, spine protector, kevlar thread and vented etc. Any advice or experiences would be most welcome.

In the same position as you.

Looking at buying a full piece. Undecided if you go for a midrange $900 one or a cheap $300 ebay suit.

    So many to choose from...

If in doubt spend the extra on something from a company with a reputation, sometimes a new or cheaper product will be comparable but chances are you won't be the first to have heard of it.

After buying my one peice recently locally, I can definitely recommend spending some time visiting local shops to see what they can do for you first.

I was keen on an astars suit and I tried on 3 different sizes of it and none of them were even close to fitting properly. I ended up with a berik blade that fits miles better, I'd be spewing if I bought OS and was left with a suit that didn't fit.

It might cost a bit more it's something you'll have for a while so you want it to fit.

Have you thought about a custom made suit? I get mine from Sixth Sense. Good service and value. Talk to Steve Lambe, 0433377527. Tell him Chris sent you - he'll do you a good deal.

I have a GP Pro 2 piece suit and the only fault I can find is that the thighs are tight. I wear size 30 pants normally, I needed 36 to get these onto my legs so the waist is really loose. I only wear the pants when zipped to the jacket anyway so it's ok.
Is such a thing even possible?

i bought a cheap arse $430 perrini 1 piece suit, which fits perfect because you measure yourself up and then send them the measurements. Im starting to get faster so I was worried that it wouldnt hold up when I crashed so I was looking at getting an A* tech 1 R suit. I wasnt planning on test sliding the perrini suit, but I crashed in turn one at barbagallo the other week and went for a bit of a slide and walked away without even feeling it. Suit held up fine, had a couple of holes because of friction on the protectors in the suit, i would say thats why the top brands have shoulder protectors on the outside for this reason to change the protector and not patch the hole. A little lady told me to take it to Reids Bootmakers to fix it, they did an awesome job fixing it and was expecting to pay way more than what I did. Not sure what to do now because I want to have a bit more protection from a back and chest protector, I could buy the tech 1 R or get a vest with back/chest protection and get another cheap arse perrini suit made to go over the extra armor. Im keen to see the difference between the big name brands lower leg/shin protection compared to what ive got now. Maybe I was just lucky

Thanks for all the input. Does a custom have all the necessary protection like the Astars or cortech ?. I am not huge or fat - just under 6ft however I have tried the Astars and find that I need a 48/58 just because of my shoulders and neck and I worry that the pants will be too big (am a 36 in jean size).

As some has suggested been trying to get a good price locally - so far 1200 is the best I can come up with.

I crash at speed in a Spidi suit and it held together very well.

Check how cheap suits are stitched together as they can open up very quickly eg budget Ixon suits.
