It can also be influenced by the carcass design; the way its supposed to flex & the pattern used to lay up the belts.
On earlier radial car tyres it was possible for the belts to lift if the leading edge was pointing in the wrong direction, this would cause the tyre to fail (usually a separation of tread from carcass).
Tyre design is now a lot more sophisticated but it always pays to check.
I beleive the Pirelli SCP uses the same carcass as the slick (the slicks are reversible) so turning the Pirelli SCP around shouldn't present a prob tho I dunno about other brands.
