    Preload & Sag???????

No not a question regarding foreplay and the inevitable result, or a discussion regarding shooting a balloon, it is one of traction and control. I have, as best as I am able, searched the net for an answer but came up empty (just about the same time as sag was achieved). Could someone who has the requisite experience let me know, in ball park figures, what the sag (in mm) should be, front and rear, for an r6 track day riding.

    Thankyou

    What do you weigh?

80kg. Banging around Barbagallo on a stock r6 in low 70 sec's. I've been up there 4 times and am trying to develop a basic understanding of what's going on and why, your advise is greatly appreciated. Suspension has been described as a black art, little wonder. It is quite confusing for a beginner like me

    Thankyou very much ApatheticEnd.

Have a look through the how to section here Sport Bike Motorcycles & Custom Sport Bikes - Sportbike Accessories, Parts & Reviews at Sport Rider good guide on setting up. They state 25mm for the track, but i would agree with Josh and 30mm rear, a little more in the front to start with.

If you PM me your email address I'll send you a couple of articles on suspension set up that included doing sag.

Depending on how serious you are, you can replace the front springs with .95kg and put in Racetech compression valves.

It took me ages to get me R6 to steer, particularly when you open the throttle out of turns.

if my last few parts get here next week I'll be coaching at the next few track day (Trakdayz & MCRC prob). If you can make one of these days & are in my group I can run you through the why & wherefores.

If you want a leg up on what to do & why then PM Marty Moose & have him do the initial setup for you; you get educated into the bargain. This is a great investment of a few shekels for a goodly amount of knowledge.

Thank you for that, I have trouble reading technical (well it is for me) information on a screen, I will print it out and scrutinise it. From the little I read it will give me a much better idea of the structure and function of the suspension systems component parts.

I will PM as suggested, thankyou. I am pretty serious, I am considering turning my R6 into a track bike. As i said, I have only been to the Raceway 4times, but I fear I am addicted. It seems track time is like ICE, once tried and forever sought. I will travel up as much as I can this year to get a better idea about whether I truly want to do that.

I will be there on the 31st of Jan in group 3. I really don't want to walk around asking people if they are Smeghead, no way to win friends and I don't want to be sent home for fighting. Who should I seek out, my name is Andrew.

I have read that Marty Moose is a person of considerable ability in this area, but being a newb, I did not know the etiquette of contacting List Members about particular interests. I will give it a go.

    Thanks for that.

.. PM Marty, he's a real nice guy and has done a lot of peeps bikes, my racebike included. The moderate sum he charges helps him in his racing (Enduro these days as roadracing hurts his pocket too much). It doesn't matter if he's never spoken to ya before, or knows ya from a bar of soap. He's pretty busy at the moment so give him a call & get in the queue, sooner ya contact him the quicker you'll get it done.

Look out for a black 2006 ZX6RR with either no numbers or #193, I usually coach Group 2 or 3 Trakdayz, or Advanced 1 or 2 MCRC. If I know Marty has already done a base setup before you get to the track then we can get you closer to what you need quicker.

Oh, and I'm usually the one that never stops talking (some would say dribbling ).

hmm since I started reading up on "the basin" Ive decided I really need to talk to a pro about setting up my gixxer 1k

agreed suspension setup definitely does seem to be a total mystery to a track virgin like yours truly

I'm booked for March 1st, so I guess I should PM Marty as well and join the queue

until now I havent got around to meeting any of the good folk here at PSB but look forward to rectifying that soon. thanks a bunch for all the usefull advice

Ok, will seek out the 600 with or without #193 in a quiet moment. And likewise will contact Mr M Moose. Am now looking forward to the 31st with a greater eagerness. Thanks so very much.

Lol. Ok, I get this. I have a passion or two of my own and am very enthusiastic if I am asked for an opinion. Cheers.
