    Will this pass scrutineering?

    G'day,

New rearsets on the tracky (NC30), and while they came with a setup to hook the rear MC up properly, it involves pulling the MC apart and putting a new shaft in .

I don't use the rear at the track, but I've been told it needs to at least work. This works, but because it's not a hard connection, the lever can spring up a bit depending on how you take pressure off it. There's a stopper to make sure it can't flip all the way around or anything silly like that. But I'm still a little concerned as to whether it's going to pass.

I can't see the photo Wilson but your rear brake action will be checked. So if it looks a little dodgy and you think it's a little dodgy then chances are they prob will too. Is it worth the risk?
I would fit it up properly if you can. Would suck to miss out on our last track day at barbs for a while mate!

Tried to link from dropbox. I've updated with an imageshack link.

The thing is, the brake does the job, and there's almost no chance of it not working... it's just not a very flash setup. Blergh, I'll see whether I can make it any better today.

if u want, swing round.. can try drill the lever and attaching bolt and put a spring in it so they are connected and lever wont separate
not sure what the scale of that is, but have a bunch of 4ish cm rear brake springs

something like this... (if i understand the problem correctly)

Cheers for the offer. That's a damn good idea, and I should be able to knock something similar up at my usual workshop/mate's place.

Why not just do the mod to the rear master and make it right?

I doubt that will pass and I can bet you shit to sugar you'll want your rear brake working if your fronts fail for whatever reason.

It will not pass if I happen to do your bike so it would be best if you can sort it before heading up tomorrow.

Ahh the double edged sword of asking web board if your dodgy shit will pas when half the guys running the show are on here as well.
The universe likes speed. Don't delay. Don't second guess. Don't doubt. When the opportunity is there, when the impulse is there, when the intuitive nudge from within is there, act.

    Awfully good point, Desmo.

I've got it drilled and wired and I'm 100% confident it will work without any issue. I'm bringing the other bike anyway, just in case.

Robin, the question was genuinely for the people who are scrutineering. It looks dodgy, but it still does the job it's meant to. I just wanted to know how close to factory it needs to be.

(not this aaiden) but a rear brake is as good as no brake to stop you.

Aiden is very lucky to be here, as I know another that had the same happen into t1 and isn't.

Hope ya got it sorted, but a tack weld should have done the job, assuming the metal plate could rotate on the brake leaver.

I've never seen a bike skid to a stop on track. They make it to the sand/wall, fast.

Edit: yes, appologies. That was uncalled for.

In all seriousness Desmo, see if you can get to a braking marker, grab the fronts, realise they don't work, let your brain get over the whole 'I'm fucked' reaction, step on the rear brake, and slow down enough to make the corner.

The simple fact is, they are not an efficient way to stop a bike.

True enough, you will not make the corner but surely any reduction in speed is preferable to hitting the sand/wall full on.
