would you race 2 year old tyres?

I bought new tires for round 2 and the rear is stamped 2509. Should I ask for a fresher replacement? I cant be arsed heading up there after taking time off work and paying the entry fee just to waste them with an average performing rear on the day. Thoughts?

It wasnt wrapped but under the where the sticker was it seems to be fresher than the other surface, the other surfaces seem dirty and slightly harder.

Christian Casella raced on tyres from 2008 in Rd 1..... didn't seem to give him too much of a problem.

Regardless of whether they're okay or not, if it's bothering you, get them exchanged. Confidence in your equipment is of paramount importance.

Do you normally check the dates? What would you expect them to be?

I for one have no idea if my tires are 2 weeks or 2years old....

See and you are an example of what Nigel says...

You, good or bad, don't know about the age of your tyres and just go out with confidence and go hard...

Now poor Slayed has got it in his head that he's on shitty tyres...

So I suspect he wouldn't be going hard...

It's a 4 digital number on the sidewall, first 2 numbers are the week of the year, second 2 numbers are the year...

Like others have said. If your heads preoccupied with worry about your tyres, you wont race as hard. Change them and go out there knowing all is right with your gear., and race hard.

Well after a proper clean up they dont look too bad, but I picked up a fresh set off Jet82 which were manufactured in 2510, and they have a comparatively softer carapace than the older version. Agreed that its 99% about confidence rather than a tire issue so will get it changed before race day just to set the mind at ease. Might use the older tire on a practice day to determine if a gump like me can feel any difference anyway. Thanks all for your input

Q: Would you race on 2 year old tyres?

A: Yes I would and have done with no issues. I have raced on 4yr old tyres that were also second hand and won Club 1000 in rd 4 last year. Then used the same tyres for rd 5 and finnished 3rd in C grade Superbikes. However as Nigel has said your confidence is very important, so if you can't get it out of your head get them exchanged if you can.
