TurboR1 ... are you there ... how about something on your new silver Transit with the worlds only set of auto speakers that can be heard from outer space!
Yep I'm here... really need to update this, right now don't have many photos or video...

AS it is I have not done anything external to the van...

The only real 'mods' (if you can call them that is swapping all interior lights of LEDs and the park lights with super bright LED items as well, seriously these piss you off when I'm behind you at the lights.

All the wood panelling has now been covered in marine carpet to give it a less tradesman feel and more of a sedan.

It's strength lies in its almost complete stereo, right now a 1500WRMS system running a 2 x 100wrms amp powering a pair of 80WRMS @ 4ohm 6.5" AudioLine splits in the cab, these alone are enough to fill the cab with more noise than you ears can handle... not being content though I have a 2 x 150WRMS amp powering 4 Sony 440Wpeak 6x9" @ 2 ohms, it's close to the limit of what the amp can drive but ok. Finally to give some oomff to the lot is a 1000WRMS D-Class driving 4 12" Kicker subs @ 2ohms. Over all I'm reasonably content, but there is still some expansion to be had.

I still have another 2 x 100WRMS and another 2 X 150WRMS amp lying around the place doing nothing so I'll throw them in, as such I will effectively double my speaker system another set of splits in the cab and 4 more 6 x 9's, My D-Class has enough grunt to allow me to add two more 12" subs... Final system should be 2000WRMS, with 2 pairs of 6.5" Splits, 8 6x9's and 6 12" Subs... should pump out a bit of volume. All in good time.

Gosh ... and I usually drive around in complete silence ... it's about the only quiet time I can get.

I'll post some photos soon with some more cheap Chinese eBay enhancements. I got a set of high powered LED daytime running lights for $11.98 delivered ... can you believe that?

I made my own rear tailgate dust deflector for less than $30 ... I bought a couple of 60mm wide x 1000mm long ribbed aluminum strips and a spray can of black enamel from Bunnings. I used the Mig to make a up a couple of brackets. It looks pretty good and it works.

Also a set of checkered flag decals from eBay UK for about $25 delivered. These are now on the side of the van. They're about 2000mm. I reckon they look good but my daughter reckons I look like a bogan.

I've got a rear view camera with 4.3" monitor/mirror on it's way from Hong Kong for about $60.

You have found the deep dark corners of eBay Scott!

I've been in the ebay bin as well.. searching the UK and stumbled across these...

LED Day Running Lights Kit DRL Ford Transit Mk7 Van and Motorhome Sept 2006 on | eBay

    A little pricey but... meh.

Ordered and paid for on the 20th they turned up yesterday (30th) that's faster than well, anything from the eastern states.

    IMG_3444.JPG

This is how the van looks stock.
    IMG_3445.JPG

Step 1: Cut out the holes in the original bumpers, this is easy done by drilling a ring of pilot holes as close as you dare to the edge and then nipping the bits in between to remove the bulk of the blank. Then Dremel time to get a nice smooth finish.
    IMG_3446.JPG

Step 2: Test fit, and once happy tighten everything up.
    IMG_3447.JPG

Step 3: Hook up the electrics, switch it on and watch for smoke.

That's looking good Robin. My $11.98 led running lights are a bit dull so I will probably get something a bit better.

Next project is a reversing camera and mirror/monitor. I have to reverse down a long skinny driveway now so the camera is almost a must. I put one on my car and it works really well.

Now I live in the salubrious surrounds of Floreat I'm concerned I'll be reversing out of the driveway with hedges on both sides and get T-Boned by a lady called "Prue" driving a Range Rover taking her little "Sebastion" or "Alistair" to soccer training.

i got hold of a 98 transit a few years ago and has been the best investment into making going racing easy that i have done. plenty of room for 2 bikes and gear and will carry 6 people due to back seat .i have heard the storys of bad transits but so far only normal servicing needed looks a bit bunky but get us there and back.004.jpg

Here's some more photos of recent mods and enhancements:

Checkered Flag stickers from UK eBay about $25 delivered.

Home made rear dust deflector total cost about $30. I made the brackets with the MIG. The pieces of string taped to the rear window were to test the completed deflector to observe the airflow over the back window.

Next project is to fit this reversing camera system. The camera is specifically for this model Vito and takes the form of a replacement number plate light. It still works as a light ... from eBay out of Hong Kong for about $25 delivered. The rearview mirror has an embedded 4.3" LCD screen which is only visible once powered up other wise the whole thing is just a mirror ... again eBay Hong Kong for about $28 delivered. The mirror clips over the top of the existing rear view mirror and looks like a prettty good quality product. Photos once I've fitted the camera

I've put one of the cameras on my car and it's bloody brilliant. It's Sony CCD high definition. I was able to connect it to the OEM navigation screen. . Here's a photo of the one in the car:

I've fitted the reverse camera and LCD mirror. I ended up cutting a new hole and mounted the camera in the centre rather than inserting into one of the number plate light holes. Total cost was about $53 delivered for the mirror and the camera. Makes reversing far easier and safer.

Bought the camera from here: stephenhong2009 items - Get great deals on items on eBay Stores!
and the mirror from here: elate tech items - Get great deals on items on eBay Stores!

Nice setup Scott. If you don't mind me asking, where did you power the reverse camera from? I wired mine into the reverse lights which works great, brings it up on the screen automatically, only problem i've got is that the brake lights and indicators started interfering with the stereo while i was driving, might have to check my dodgy soldering

I did the same. Just found the wire to the reverse light and tapped into that. Haven't had any interference problems with brake lights or indicators when the radio or stereo is going. You'd better check your soldering!

    I'll bet that the issue is with one of two things;

Your grounding wire, where did you ground it to? to the chassis of the car? or back into the wiring loom, to what you thought was ground?

    Or

Depending on the type of car you have (and I have been caught out before as well) The power for the screen, was that sourced from a constant 12V from within your loom? You may want to check the voltages on that line when your stereo is on and when you indicators and headlights are on. I once hooked up 12V from the car for the stereo, only to realise that the source I used was the dimming signal from the car to dim the dash lights from the existing stereo, caused all sorts of mayhem.

The Express vans are about the same width as the Vito so two bikes can fit. I've fitted a cargo barrier from an Express to the Vito.
