    08 Hyosung GT250r won't start

    Hi there
I am having a major issue getting my bike to start.
I went for a ride boxing day for about 20mins, got home put the bike in neutral, put the stand down, hit the kill swith and turned the key off. I then decided I would move it then and there and when i went to start it nothing, zip! Key is in the on position, bike is in netural and i hit the start swith and nothing.
I have (with my dad) charge the battery (all good), checked the fuse's, tried to start it in evey possible position. We tried push starting it and we got some noise but its just not firing. We've pulled apart the start swith box on the acelerator handle and everything looks fine.
Im waiting for him to get home and then were having a look at the starter motor.
Does anyone have any idea what else it could be. It seems so odd that its just not working. I did drop it recently and had to replace the mirrors, right indicator and break leaver, but I have been riding heaps since.
I would appreciate any input or ideas.
    Thankyou

Stupid question, but you did unkill the kill switch didnt you?
Also try flicking the stand up and down a bit- could be the kill switch associated with that.

I know nothing about Hyo's but I would also suggest to check the stand prox switch and there may be a main fuse somewhere, as a start.

ok... so you need to do it as a bit of process of elimination.
bump (push) start - not working... prob not your starter.. sound more like no ignition
so.. try starting it in nuetral.. with the side stand up and the clutch pulled fully in (that bypasses all those switches)
other thing off the top of my head is some bikes have bank angle sensors so that if you drop your bike, it kills the EFI.. dont know if the HYO has this.. could have been damaged in the drop?

so try the ^^ first and let us know..

If ur constantly using your killswitch (which you shouldnt be by the way) its only a small copper switch internally as it isnt made for constant on/off use, check it, could be broke.

done all those things (unkilled the killswitch, flicking the stand, main fuse), thinking it might be the CDI, is there a way to test it to make sure.

CDI will cause no spark or weak spark..

according to your OP it does nothing happen when you hit the start switch - is this correct?

if so find the starter solinoid (usually near your battery, there will be a fairly large lead from the positive side of the battery to one post and a similar lead from there to the starter motor.. put a screwdriver accross the 2 terminals (yes it will spark - expect it) and see if the starter motor turns over..

if yes, trigger signal is not getting from start switch to solinoid (which means one of the aforementioned switches etc is screwed) if nothing then the starter is prob gone.

OK so pic attached from my old Suz Katana.... should give you an idea of what to look for...

none of this is a fix, just getting more info so the brains trust on this site can point you in the right direction..

    Starter.jpeg

PS.. Make sure its in neutral as you are bypassing all the safety switches!!!!

And your not trying to start the bike, just seeing if it turns over (starter kicks in)

Hey thanks heaps for the pic, yeah Dad gave me a hand! So it cranks over fine and we think the CDI is stuffed, is there a way to bypass it so that we know for sure?

when you try to start it normally, sdoes the starter mototr turn over but the bike does not fire... or does the starter not kick in?

The CDI replaces what used to be points.. so it picks up hte crank angle, adjusts for engine speed and tells the coils when to fire (spark plugs)

unless Hyosung have done some wierd wiring, I would expect it to turn over but not fire or turn over and run rough if it was the CDI

    --- -- -- -

next test is to pull the trigger wire off the solenoid (thats why I was asking for a pic - so I could tell you which coloured wire to pull off) and short the spade where the wire was to the pos terminal on the battery. if the solenoid works it should kick in (and if bike is in nuetral/ign on) should start... if solenoid is screwed you will get nothing.

So you got it to crank over by bridging the solenoid, but it still didn't start? That suggests that both the starter circuit AND ignition circuit aren't working, which leads me to think it's a kill line issue. Right about now is a good time to find a wiring diagram for your bike and testing the line with a multimeter.

    agree with your diagnosis..

If she understood wiring diagrams and multimeters this thread would not exist..

am slowly working through the old fashioned way (process of elimination)

Without a multimeter you're resorting to a visual inspection for broken wires and loose connections, then guessing as to whether it's the CDI - unless there's a good one to swap in. If you don't have access to a meter and the associated help, you're going to need to find/pay for some Im afraid Amanda. On the plus side it'll save you hours of guesswork.
