    2012 Megelli 250R SE

So I am pretty set on getting one of these, I pretty much fell in love with it when I saw it, Amazing looking bike, top speed of 160km/h, Upsidedown forks, comes with an awesome zorst, did I mention it looks amazing?

Lots of bad reports on the earlier models (Like the Hyosung) But it's said the 2012 model is alot better, what have you guys heard? Has anyone got one? Has anyone ridden one?

I'm very happy with this bike, all I need to do is take it for a test ride and see what it's like, any input is greatly appriciated.
My job isn't jumping feet first into hell, It's making sure it's crowded when I get there.
You can have it any color you want, as long as it's black.

Purely from memory, I don't believe there is an actual dealer for Megelli in Aus and the local "distributors" are terrible for build quality and warranty work.
We are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that's no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, so I'm not going to bother mentioning the lack of power, poor reliability, unavailability of parts, patchy dealer support and woeful resale.

Least it's not a fucking pagsta.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

You must admit it looks pretty good though.

Besides, Ducati has most of the, Ahem,... qualities ... you mentioned, and they seem to sell fine. Let them live the dream for a month until it's off the road for 3 or more months.

Besides everything everyone has already said above... have you actually ridden one? The little things like rolling on, rolling off, the vibes, heat from the underseat exhaust, the sounds, the feel of the switchgear, brakes, clutch, shifter etc.
    160kmph from a 27hp single cylinder... ambitious.

    any input is greatly appriciated.
    Forget that silly contraption.

    Buy a 250 for less than 5k.
    Look after it.
    Get your big bike licence.
Sell your 250 for about the same price.
    Buy a proper bike.

I pretty much fell in love with it when I saw it

I'm not going to deny that it's a good looking bike, or that it can reach 160km/h (down a very long and steep hill).

However is it just me or are the USD forks thinner than the gas struts for the boot of a Toyota hatchback? And +1 to everything Barfridge said.

If you're buying a bike on looks alone and you're not concerned with having a bike that runs all the time, take a look at a Cagiva Mito - at least it's a good bike to begin with.

Yes they look good but have a closer inspection.
Yes they claim 27hp but no where near that.

A cbr is only $6400 ride away with ABS or $5900 without.
Go test ride the cbr please.

Aside from that ignore the 'get a proper bike not a 250' haters.. my guess is they cant ride the R1's or whatever they have already.

Seriously mate just stop and think, i was told recently by a DEALER that stocks them that they are a piece of shit. your 250 is a means for learning and biding your time until you have your R's. THEN you dream and drool over the bikes you want.....just get a cheap cbr or gpx

Wow really does look incrediable (for a 250) and Im not going to say stay away from cheap bikes (I ride a fking Hyosung, so can't hate on cheap bikes :p) but do some research on them, see how much they are going for second hand and decide if you can deal with losing that many $$$ when you go to sell. Read the reviews, learn what the problems are and either price up possible fixes, or decide if the issues raised are ones you can deal with or not.

End of the day, your the one that will be riding it, so no one can suggest the correct bike for you, that's a choice you have to make yourself. Just do the research and go fro
    There :-)

I don't want a CBR or a Ninja, I want something unique, Something that people will see and go; "Woah what the fuck is that?"
Resale doesn't bother me too much, I'm not too eager to get a big bike yet anyway, As long is it can go 100km/h I'm fine.

As for the reliability, I havn't heard any reports on them breaking down, I spoke to a guy that had a black one, and he said he dropped it and a new fairing cost him $60, Not something you'd expect from a ninja, The demo model I went to look at was a 2010 model, and it had 11000km's on the clock and still went like a rocket, and he said it had been given a hard time (Yes I know, don't trust dealers/salesmen) I'm looking forward to taking one for a ride and seeing what it's like myself, I want to hear from someone who actually has one, thats MAINLY why I posted here. But I do appriciate all your input. Thanks

I've seen one in the flesh once.

The forks were weedy and the chrome was pitted, the dash was tiny and hard to read and the 14 year olds at the bus stop thought it was "Sick!"

That was enough to put me off.

I have ridden one... It was really appalling compared to any other vehicle I have ridden.

There gearbox is loose and feels very delicate (if that makes any sense). The brakes feel very much like those on an old scooter, unresponsive and weak.

Then I saw on the compliance plate that the bike is actually a 125cc but registered as a 250. If it has 10 hp I will be surprised. Granted I am too big for it, however I was not able to maintain 80kph on marmion ave. This is inexcusable, a 50cc scooter will take me to nearly 60kph...

Your money to spend... Just please have a ride of a Japanese motorcycle of any age or value first.

    Jesus fucking travninja. *facepalm*

    Okay.
    I don't want a CBR or a Ninja, I want something unique
If it's a new 250 and it is unique, then there is probably something wrong with it.

Want something unique? buy an old style zx2. They'll shit all over that megelli tractor.

Something that people will see and go; "Woah what the fuck is that?"
Don't be that guy. The only person looking at you on a bike is you {when you pass your own reflection in building's windows}. Yeah, maybe 2 % of the population may care that you're on a bike, but chances are that they also own a bike and will be laughing at you instead.

Resale doesn't bother me too much, I'm not too eager to get a big bike yet anyway, As long is it can go 100km/h I'm fine.
Resale WILL bother you. You WILL be eager to get a big bike. Struggling over 100kmh WILL piss you off.

As for the reliability, I havn't heard any reports on them breaking down, I spoke to a guy that had a black one, and he said he dropped it and a new fairing cost him $60
It was probably from a standing drop, a side fairing and i'll bet they didn't fit.
How much did everything else cost when he fell off it?
The demo model I went to look at was a 2010 model, and it had 11000km's on the clock and still went like a rocket
No. No it didn't. No single cylinder 250 goes like a rocket.

I want to hear from someone who actually has one

    • We all own or have owned bikes.
    • We're not jealous.
    • We don't want you to make the same mistake that some of us have made in paying far too much for a 250 (thinking we'll actually keep it for more than a year).
