Bear in mind that the assessors can and do take you anywhere. They do tend to be creatures of habit and generally do the same things but like all of us after a while they get bored and change things.
My advice is to make sure you are ready for whatever they throw at you.
It is not about learning a test route it is about developing your skills so you can operate as an independent rider doing what you have to do.
Gord.
I passed my RE today at kelmscott, route taken was left out of gates at DPI up Gillam rd, turn right at first roundabout into Champion drive and follow to the end, turn left onto Tonkin hwy, travel approx 2kms then take the Ranford rd exit and turn left, take first left after exiting Tonkin hwy which is Mcneil st, performed U turns and emergancy braking, then back out to Ranford rd turning left. After that made our way back to the DPI via a couple of back streets then on to Gillam rd, test over !!!
But as gordo said you should be ready for anything they throw at you as the route I took today was none of the ones my instuctor said they were likely to take !
ive got my test tommorow. weather forecasts predict wet and windy. any special advice for these conditions?
i passed! didnt end up being rainy at all. did it at city west with an assesor called vic. was a good bloke. big thanks to dwayne at elite for the lesson before hand but he gave me awesome advice which helped me heaps! i sucked big time in the lesson but it all came together in the test.
we went around the city west complex and that was pretty much it. did the e-stop and o-turns on same street as the licencing centre carpark....but down a bit where it turns into 2 lanes each way. all up test took about 10-15 mins. Bloody pumped! all that stressing for nothing
Had a lesson today with Elite...learnt a hill park but I have a crap memory and just wanted to clarify the steps as well as help others:
1. Indicate left, shift down to first
2. Pull over making sure you leave enough space to get both feet down between the bike and the curb, clutch in and both brakes on
3. Leave foot break on and take right hand off front brake and turn off ignition
4. Put right hand back onto grip
5. Put the stand down and turn the front bars left
6. Get off the bike to the left and put both feet flat on the road
7. Step away from the bike onto the curb so the instructor knows you've completed the hill stop.
And can I just say Anthony did a great job of acting out what *can* happen if you try to step straight onto the curb![]()
just make sure you lean the bike onto the stand first before you get off the bike![]()
ive forgotten all my sit down/get off ettiquette-i always leave my bike in neutral so i never bother with clutch or front brake when i turn it on, and if its not in neutral then it wont start without the clutch in anyway
hey just wondering do they eva make u do a hill start in a riding test or need to perform these, and if anyone can tell me how far u have to make ya emergency stop so i can pratice that would be great!!
its officially 10M, you can find this sort of info on the dpi website. they dont sit there with a ruler and measure it, but they do give a small allowance if its wet(according to other psb posts) depending on how anal the examiner is. in my test all i had to do was 3 u turns and one e-stop, and ride in a square around morley.
best way to practice for e stop is measure out 10m and come in at >55km/h. its still pretty easy to stop from say 60 with a bit of practice, and then in the test if you approach at just under 50 it will be a piece of piss.
PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.
When i did my RE test in the wet, he gave me about 14m and told me to d it from 40km/h. Waaaaaay easy
i think they're just looking for technique more than anything with the e-stops, at least that's what my instructor implied.
Had my first lesson with Anthony at Elite MCT. I've always been able to ride but the hints/tips and explanations as to why we do these things from Anthony was first rate. Told me to book my test now and just have a refresher before the test. I was stoked. Havent learnt to many bad habits !!!
HIGHLY RECOMENDED....
re: e-stops...
the distance you are given is *plenty*
practice e-stops until you can stop reliably at the point where the front suspension is fully compressed.
if you are competent, on a typical noob 250 (zzr for example) you should be able to do an e-stop from 50km/h in around 7-8m reasonably easily.
stuff
E stop distance is 12m, There are a few different training methods to learn this, choose a safe method that suits your level and requirement.
If I give advice on such matters it is tailored to the student and the situation which is not possible for me to do in this post...
