Well when I did the u-turn i went around twice because I was so use to doing them 10 at a time and the tester said "Why did you go around twice? I asked you to do it once"
So if you get a grumpy old man at kelmscott then going around more than once may not be a better thing.

There are 3 areas you will be assessed on. They are General Riding, Controlled Stops and U-Turns/O-Turns.

    U or O-Turns[/b][/u]
You will be asked to perform U or O turns (same thing!). You may be asked to do 3, you could be asked to do 20... Keep going until the assessor is happy! Stay in 1st gear, at walking pace only. Use your rear brake and clutch and keep your head up. I guarantee it is 100% easier to perform these when you look where you want to go. You can turn your indicator off after each turn if you wish but its easier to keep it on and you won't be marked down for it if you do.
    Perform like so:
MILO, take off, travel approx 15 metres (or however much space you are given), MILO and U/O-Turn, repeat. Remember when you stop to put you left foot down.

    Jo

just a question about "MILO" before you execute the U/O turn, and that is, while your looking in the mirror and you happen to see a car that will be passing by you in the next few moments, do you still indicate after your mirror check, or wait till the car passes then re-check the mirror, indicate and move out?

As soon as u see the car on ur rear mirror or blind spot, indicate left as u do when ur pulling over, that is telling the car driver that ur not turning in front of him but actually ur slowing down to give him way.....u can stop and put ur left foot down (foot on the road.....not on the curb...) NO! they will not give u any points for putting ur foot down cos actually ur not turning yet but pulling over to give away to an incoming car.

After the car overtakes u do ur M.I.L.O. again and go for it....

Remember: work out ur friction point + rear break ony (keep ur fingers off the front break.....mind temptation.....) + don't look at the ground or the curb cos that where u will end up...keep ur eyes up.

    Good luck.

Another tip my instructor told me when you are idling and you go to shift feet position to change gears ensure you have your right hand firmly on the brake when changing feat while idle regardless if the ground is flat.

I don't know about you fellas but I had a habit of just dropping my right foot down, changing the gear and putting the right foot back on the peg. All this without using the front brake. Mind you when I did this it was flat ground and a stupid newbie habbit that I got rid off.

Just shows the instructor that you have complete control of the bike you are riding.

^^ another reason to use the front brake is to ensure your brake light remains lit.

If you put your right foot down without holding the front brake on, your rear brake light will go OFF and the cage behind you may assume you're going to move forwards and run over you.

    Stupid?

    Yes.

So are the fuckwits out there.

I was told to always ensure I had the right gear selected beforehand... So if I was coming to a stop I should make sure I am in first before coming to a complete stop. Then left foot goes down and right foot stays on rear brake.

Tis good in theory, but i like to make doubly sure i'm in first, as the RR's gearbox is so close.

I'd rather spend a couple of seconds confirming that, rather than go to take off from the lights and bog it in front of traffic

however if you're approaching a corner in second and ready to cruise through it and then a car appears and you've had to stop suddenly and put your foot down...
