Anyone playing around with CBR 250 rīs cams and pistons?

Model is fairly new but google searches indicate the market is starting to offer technical improvements such as stage 1/2/3 cams and a high compression pistons and hopefully will soon start with big bore kits and the like just as with the CBR 150. Anybody knows of prefered dealers or had a go at it? The potential in a CBR 125 or 150 is astounding provided one is willing to throw dollars at it.

It would be a useful mod if you're racing in 250 production, otherwise a waste of time and money.

Oh thatīs right I forgot, only riding on an R1 with more than 180 hp and a lot of carbon covers one can have fun doing the allowed 70 ks in the hills...

why is it ridiculous...? i sometimes wonder about the psb "mind set" when it comes to 250cc and under!

I think you will find not alot of people modifier 250cc and under, however any good mech should be able to do it for you if you can source the parts

I'm not saying you couldn't do it, but when you state that "The potential in a CBR 125 or 150 is astounding provided one is willing to throw dollars at it." people are going to call it out on being a stupid statement. You may as well throw a big bore kit at an exercise bike...

I can't speak for the PSB collective but here's the rationale behind my comment:

The CBR250R has EFI, electronic ignition and an O2 sensor. Screw with the compression ratio or valve timing and you're altering the burn in the combustion chamber. The O2 sensor will feed this back to the computer with the likely result of the ignition being retarded, maybe an engine warning light as a bonus.

So now you're spending money on a Power Commander (if there is one) and dyno time, on top of the camshafts and pistons. If you're doing these mods you're going to want a full exhaust (the Cat is going to be a bigger restriction than the camshafts ever were) and filter. Hopefully the injectors weren't close to their duty cycle otherwise those will need upgrading too. If the cams alter valve lift and not just duration then you'd be wanting to dry build the engine to ensure piston to valve clearances and frankly if you were to do all of this and not do some porting then you're being half arsed.

What have you gained, maybe 30%? On an engine that was never designed to be truly fast. I'm going to speculate that the above is going to have cost you a minimum of $3k plus (if you're somewhat handy). Add the cost of purchase, subtract the warranty, carry the risk of the bottom end not being up to the task, equals a bike that can't do anything as well as another bike you could have spent your money on.

If you're doing all of this to enjoy the hills at 70km/h, do yourself and your wallet a favour and just alter the sprockets. If you really want to play with a small bike then buy yourself a 2-stroke, they're lighter, better specified and just as powerful plus it's far easier to extract more power from them.

Still, do what you want. I'm sure there's someone out there with supercharged Sachs Madass that thinks he's onto something no one else will ever understand.

Sounds a lot like the steps one would take bumping up the power on an RS125, new carb to get more flow then jerry rig it to get rid of the TPS light, new programmable ignition, rebuild it more often to cover the extra wear and tear etc...

It really is a waste of time and money. You are honestly better off getting a 600 and doing that up. Once LAMS comes to WA, reselling your pimped out 250 for $$$ won't work either

It does, doesn't it? Doesn't mean that my post is flawed in any way.

Also, you should see how I actually got the TPS to work off the oil pump - no jerry rigging on my bike

One simply can't understand why everyone is referring to one's self as "one" in this thread...

Because 'you' is often misconstrued as a personal attack, 'one' in this case would be someone other than 'you' who jerry rigged their TPS sensor

It's not ridiculous if you're into 250cc racing.

You can have plenty of fun on small bikes.

Pissing money away cracking open the engine on a brand new CBR250 isn't going to be a barrel of laughs though. Tyres, maybe some suspension tweaking and just ride the tits off it if you must, but to make any modifications you're going to far outweigh any kind of performance return on investment of a cheap 600.

250 Racing within Australia currently doesn't allow any engine modifications, and for one model, even has inlet restrictions....

    Oh I see... That's a pity.

We need to get 100 PSB members ['s money] together and build a track on private property. Or 1000.
