I am going to have to say the Hyosung GT250R.

I will post some pictures and some information of why I think the Hyosung GT250R is probably the best all around 250cc motorbike.

Aprilia RS250. Not for novices though, it will kill you if your not ready for it, and loose your license, and that sucks, more than dying.
I love two strokes. Because they annoy the shit out of people.

The RS250 is NOT the best allround 250. It is an awesome bike but i would not like to commute on it

Not sure why you would recommend a two stroke piddely that requires servicing every 1000meters?

Sorry m8 but I think the Hyosung is an excellent bike because:

    1. Full sized 250 (the only one of its kind in the 250 range)
    2. Great looking bike
    3. Pleasant to look at
    4. V-twin
    5. Aesthetically pleasing
    6. Twin disc front brakes
    7. Two year warranty
    8. Cheap parts
    9. Reliable

The answer to your question is:
Whatever 250 each person had/has themselves.
I guarantee you someone on here will think EVERY 250 is the best.

What are you looking for? Sports? Naked? Cruiser?

Couple of the best in my opinion are...
    New/Near new:
    CBR125RR
    Honda VTR250
The new Kwaka 250R looks good too, but I've not ridden one yet, so can't judge.
    Kawasaki GPX

No longer made and getting a little long in the tooth now, but good ones are still out there to be found (And these are the two 250s I had):
    Honda CBR250RR (FireBlade)
    Suzuki GSX250F (Across)

    *EDIT*
And I HATE the Hyosung 250s with a passion. You'd have to pay me a lot of money to own one. (And I'd still never ride it.)

Don't call me spawn of satan...
I may be the spawn of Satan,
    but I have a name!

only things i see that the hyosung has going for it is that its a good looking bike and its a big bike so taller ppl find it more comfortable

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest some obscure options:

    Suzuki 250 Bandit
    Yamaha FZX 250 Zeal
    Kwakka Balius

    Why?
    They're 4 stroke, so they're reliable
They're 4 cylinder, so they actually make some power
They're naked, so they don't have heaps of expensive plastic to break off.

Of course if you want the look of a faired bike, you're out of luck.
    stuff

This is why I think the Hyosung will be perfect I got my Hyo for exactly that reason commuting to and from Uni (Freo --> Curtin Bentley)

It's very comfortable motorbike but I will be honest with you, the only problem with the Hyosung is I found some plastic trim coming out from under the tank. I had to trim it... Was not pleased at all.
