    Post CBR250 won't start

I tried starting my bike on the weekend and had no luck. It had been probably about a week and a half since i started it last, started it up, idled for a few seconds then cut out. Tried re-starting it but it wouldn't click over. Checked my battery, everything was fine...checked spark plugs everything was fine. It has been pretty cold lately so duno if that had any influence.

I'm pretty new at this whole motorbike business so any help would be great. My neighbour (pretty cluey when it comes to mechanics) suggested it could be something wrong with the coils? I was thinking of taking it to the mechanics and getting a full service.

    please help...

    Thanks..

    Thanks..
No click over = no turning over with the starter?
Forget the advice about coils if it wont spin over.... Battery first.

Well i started it as i normally do, but for some reason it's not getting the spark to start the engine. My battery is probably about a month old so definitely can't be that. Tested the supply with my bro's meter thingy that electrcians use and it's at full power.

I'm going to ask the most obvious stupid question I can think of... is there petrol in the tank?

If so, running for a while indicates that there's nothing huge wrong. Cutting out would indicate a problem with fuel (Dirty carbs maybe? Was it idling smoothly?) or with electrics (you can pull the spark plug out and see if it's sparking).

hey mate! i have had a few of these bikes which had this problem before but in my case it was the spark plugs and dirt in the carb & fuel filter....the cbr250 tends to foul the plugs if you overfuel it on start up or dont let the bike heat up sufficiently before switching it off. This also happens when the plugs are getting abit old... my advice change the plugs as well as drain the float bowls and the fuel filter

hope that happens you in some way

Turn your fuel switch to "on".

Maxo: let's make a bet of it, I have $10 on killswitch
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

I kill switched myself at the servo by accident. It happens.

Check the fuel tap too. If its "on", check it for leaks.

If neither of those two, pull the battery and check it with a multimeter.

So you pressed the starter, and heard no sound what so ever? Just as if the bike was turned off at the key? or did you hear a click and a bit of a buzzing electrical type noise?

Have you verified this? Take the spark plug out and leave the lead attached, hold the threaded bit on an available bit of engine block to complete the circuit, and turn it over. If there's no spark, that's your problem. (Dodgy plug / lead / coil / points?) If there's a good spark, your problem is with fuel.

hahaha, yeh there's definitely fuel in there.

Ok that's a relief. Idling was fine, had steady revs for the whole 10 secs before it cut out. Yeh i've checked that also, replaced the spark plugs just in case yesterday.

Yeh i've done all that. Have a feeling it might be the fuel. I've checked battery and spark plugs already so the next step is fuel. I'll flush it out and see how i go from there.

Well it needs three basic things.

Air, Fuel, Ignition. Check for all three, copied this from the fireblades forum. Guy had a similar problem, was warming it up then it just cut off. Not able to start again.

"Draining the carbs won't cut it. How often do you ride it? I would pull the carbs and clean them completely. On a bike of that age (I have one too) a little piece of corrision could have broke off and clogged a pilot jet or something. But you have to check spark, and gas. Make sure it's getting gas. Take the airbox off and tank off and press the starter with your hand over each carb. The bowls should have enough gas in them to wet your hand four times."

Well It's been about 1 week and a half since i started it last, but usually it would start no problems. No worries, i'll definitely check that out.

Faith, hope and Internet forum advice.

(I had a problem in a different millennium, on a different model, in a parallel universe, and it turned out to be the flux capacitor, so its a good chance if its not that, at least my comments will use up pixels)

I always flick it onto off. My dad whos a rider of about 30 years got on my bike, pressed the start and is like "why isnt it starting". I said, "killswitch is on". We never check the most obvious things. Ive tried pull starting the mower once about 10 times before it occurred to me to check the tank. Turns out, it was dry as a bone.
