    Changes to the licensing system

    Just a quick update.

I went to the rollout of the new ride safe book today and though I should share this information

As of Friday you should be able to get a ride safe book at your local licensing centre. Country areas will probably have to wait a couple more days. This is a significant change to rider training in WA and the book seems to be very informative and should provide plenty of information for those learning how to ride. There has been a large amount of work that has gone into this book and should provide the answers to many questions that get asked by learners. This is the start of changes that will be happening to the current system over the next couple of years. The book will also be downloadable soon on the dpi web site.

its about time they brought a book out, since with all the waffle about "road safety" i found it amazing that information was real hard to find..Even once i got my licence there were many things i did not know,.and many i still don't know!!..For example, only when i noted the hectic purple rear brake disc, did i realise i had a habit of riding with my foot on the rear brake..Sometimes,the faster i tried to go,the slower the bike actually went!! Hahahahaha...So many crashes and injuries and worse, and such a lack of information or books.
Anyway,so pleased you let us know about the sudden correction of the situation..Up till now its all been anecdotal, incidental and incremental learning.Sooo wanting this book.

^^^ No Intructor for learning, this should have been picked up when they checked your foot positioning?

Could you not see the brake light on at night, or were you always on the back brake so you thought your brake light was that bright?

If they bring in LAMS there won't be an R-class test anymore- I think your licence just clicks up after 12months.

But then they can't charge for the R class Learners Permit and for each test you have to do...

We will have to wait and see about LAMS, I am unsure exactly what is happening and dont want to comment until I know the facts. I would probably think that there will still be another test to go from LAMS to a full licence if it happens.

The book is a good start and hopefully it will flow on and we will be able to create safer, more knowledgeable riders in the future.

I also was in attendance during the roll out, the ride safe book is indeed a informative book and worth a read.

Everyone needs to chill on the LAMS issue, it's still at least a year away.

    Probably a stupid question, but...

    Ride Safe handbook
"The rules and regulations quoted in this edition are those in force as at April 2011."

That's the new book online then? (As opposed to seeing the online version updated a few months later)
