Getting a RE license on a bike with an Outrigger

Hi, a friend on mine who is 4'9" tall would like to get her bike license, and in trying to workout what bike would be ideal for her, I was wondering if anyone know about the legalities of her getting her license on a bike fitted with an outrigger ( such as those available from http://www.wedgetailoutriders.com.au). I can get one to fit my virago for her (the cost of the outrigger is more than the cost of the bike new).

Otherwise, is anyone able to recommend a bike that would be suitable (I know that there are threads about bikes for short people, but generally these talk about people who are 5' or taller).

    Thanks

Massive platform shoes, shimmed seat, plus modified suspension links to lower the bike.

I've heard all of these discussed as options, so if she uses ALL of them she should get in the ball park. Better than trainer wheels anyway.

Try a VTR250, she might fit.

Left field, but look at a Hunter Spider.

PM Morag- shes really tiny (but fierce! ). Shes got her Ninja 250 lowered so far its like a toy one
She had it lowered the full extent- I think 4 inches all up, and wears boots with a thicker tread to help too. They took the pillion seat and pegs off it- shes not allowed to pillion anyone because its so lowered.

Thanks Darkfibre. I just checked the web site for the Hunter Spyder, and the seat height is 21 inches, so I will definitely take her to look at one. The seat height on my virago is 26 inches so that will help her a lot.

Thanks Chaos, I know my friend is worried about riding a sports style bike due to back issues and leaning over, but I assume that cruiser styles can be lowered if needed, so I will PM her.

Hi ReCon, I suggested a 125 but she laughed at that and said if she does get her licence she at least wanted the power of a 250

I know i crap on about these guys a lot but have a look at soupy's
Suzuki lowering kit, kawasaki lowering kits, honda lowering kits, yamaha lowering kits, triumph lowering kits, motorcycle lowering kits

can get a couple of inches and if done properly still rides well.
can also look at the seat with as well as height as that can make a big difference.

the wife is only 5-1 and rides a street triple with no dramas.

    Thanks Emerys74,

I had looked at that link before from the recent thread about bikes for shorter people, but they do not list parts for the Virago which I would have passed on to her when I upgrade my bike. I will keep it in mind if she goes ahead with getting her RE to ensure she gets a bike that we can get lowering links for.

I agree, but if this is the only way that we can get her a suitable bike to get her license on then we will consider it.

my wife is less than 5 foot, she got a Hyo Cruiser and has not trouble at all with it. Both feet flat on the ground, as some have already said, most 250 cruisers have a very low seat height.

What she realy want is a sports bike.

Can you get a bussa lowered?
Under height, over weight and opinionated
Engine oil and new tyres are cheaper than new bikes and time in hospital

could look at lower profile tyres not sure if its a viable option and also take some foam out of the front of the seat you may get an inch or two there
some times reshaping the seat is enough as it narrows it.

have a look Hayabusa lowering kits, Hayabusa custom seats, Hayabusa raked triple clamp
can do what you want you just have to accept that its dynamics will change some.

VTR250 is narrow and the seat is low.
If you lower it further I'm sure she can ride it no worries.

My wife just wants to be able to do the speed of light and touch the ground when she has to stop. she is pregnant again and not riding at the moment but i have promised her that when she gets interested again she can have "what ever she wants"

She does like the Rocket III. just because it's almost 3L

I just checked the specs on the vtr250, and the seat height is 30.5 inches, so even lowering it it may still be an issue.

    Thanks
