    Good empty places to practice?

Passed my prac test a few weeks ago and just got a bike. What are some good empty roads/carparks that i can use to practice? want to work on my low speed maneuvering, counter steering etc. Any good places around south perth/vic park?

edit: strange that i can post a new thread no problems but my replies have to be moderator approved

Is there still a decent sized carpark near the civic centre? Or down at Curtin, maybe?

As in you passed your learners theory test or your R-E practical assessment?

jump on google maps and scout out any open areas... there is a largish car park behind Bunnings on Ellam st just off Canning hwy... never been there, but my map recon shows it seems big enough to practice some very low speed stuff and is in your area.

have you considered how your going to get your bike to said 'empty roads/carparks' to practice? (assuming you don't have your R-E licence)

you won't find much wide open space around the south perth/vic park area

perhaps have a look at curtin uni car parks... but FFS don't go there when it's busy...

if you do in fact have your R-E licence don't be afraid to head out and find some open spaces. between the domestic and international airports there is a nice stretch of road...

all the best with your riding

If going to Curtin, Carpark near Curtin stadium, just off Kent st. should be perfect for what you need.

Parking lot behind iga in Vic park is pretty empty in the morning

If I can swing my semi trailer around in there I'm sure it's enough room to practice

Can't figure how to edit on iPhone:

As for counter steering just try it on the road, as you approach a curve start counter steering and feel the bike want to lean, adjust force as needed (don't try counter steer a scooter, those things react so fast to it lmao)

Ptooey!! Try turning anything with two wheels without counter-steering, see how far you get.

Just get out there and ride, you'll spot places pretty quick Don't forget to practice your E-braking as well though this is best done out on a quite road somewhere

I had meant as the method of initiating the turn, I know every bike will counter steer naturally and that most riders don't realize that they are doing it lol.

Scooters are fun to countersteer but they react very fast, dangerously so.

Even so, you always initiate a turn with a counter-steering movement even though you may not notice it. Even on a bicycle. In regards to scooters and counter-steering, I should know as I've been fanging one since November and I swear if you try and go into a corner without counter steering you're going to be in trouble unless you are going 5km/h. It's impossible. Try it.

not true. the bike itself countersteers, you need not do it - all you have to do is lean it and the bike will countersteer (take your bike off the stand and then lean it either way and watch it do it even without moving)

therefore you can use the other methods of initiating a turn IE hip steer, foot steer....
and in doing so the bike will countersteer without your input for it to do so.

I took a mate there to practice his riding. Big carpark to the right as you pull off Kent st. Near the hockey/soccer fields.

Plenty of room to practice cornering and E-stops.

+1... good car park as you can do both your o turns and e stops in the same place. Uni is on study break with exams next week... so should be pretty empty.
