when i was shopping for my first bike i had spent plenty of time looking around for the one that i wanted. i finally decided on the VT250 spada (for value for money, looks, feel, whatever).
when i got out into the perth dealerships (and i will be very careful not to name any) and even the private sales it became pretty clear that most of the recent imports were very low on Km's
to cut what could be a very long story short, i am wondering whether these figures can be believed or not. most of the bikes i saw that had been imported (and not just the Spadas) had very low figures, with some as low as 5,000km on a 15 year old bike. most of the places passed this off by saying, the japanese imports are rarely ridden ("thats right sir, the japanese never ride on weekdays or when its raining").
do you think (or know) that these bikes have had their clocks turned back? i was very suspicious when i first noticed it, but after looking around for a while low km's seems to be pretty common.
in the end i did get a spada, but based my decision more on the look of the bike (mechanically) and how it rode and sounded during my test ride, rather than the km.

thanks EMVY
like i said i'm very happy with my bike, and it runs very well. Just nice to know the 21,000 km on it is a load of bull-dust though.

I would think that most are probably correct as I think the govt departments responsible would have picked up on it by now with so many being sold, also if you look at most jap cars they are low km as well due to the fact that cars a cheaper in comparison, but emission regs and licencing regs make it uneconomical to certify vehicles over a certain age, milage etc. Also they have a very good public transport system, shortage of parking and lots of vehicles on the road contribute to low use of vehicles

id bet money alot of the odos r wrong
its very common practise in modified jap cars to have their odos wound back
the cars r worth fuck all once they r a certain amount of years old, only good for exporting and making front cuts from, the lower the odo the higher premuim itll get for a cut
seen many cars with sub 100k on the odo
but the steering wheel and inteior looks like its had 200+k worth of ass wear
be weary

yeah, i was pretty suspect about the whole thing.
even if these bikes have been sitting in holding yards and sea containers for around ten years, they have still in theory been out on the roads for another five. i found it a little odd that i would almost double the odo on my bike in well under a year, when it had taken 15yrs to clock up only 13,000.
It doesn't count if its been around the clock three times already.
i guess that is the beauty of getting a naked bike, at least you can see that the engine and carby don't look 999,999 km old

uh lets not forget the average amount of km's done per year on a vehicle is like 5,000km instead of around 20,000km in australia
some are genuine no doubt (like my old bandit ), but some are definatly dodgy (easy to spot those ones eh)
