GSX 250 across .. wont start cold

    hey

ive got a GSX 250 Across off a mate
it was running 2 years ago when stored

ive cleaned the fuel tank and new fuel is now in it
ive cleaned the carbys.. over 5 times now new pilot jets (every passage is clear)
compression tested 150 psi across the board. (a little low) its a supercrap autos tester could be out..
its got spark on all 4 cyls and new plugs
the bike takes ALOT of cranking and piss farting around to get it to run when its cold (eg: startya basterd)
when its been started and warm it will start with a Blip of the starter
if i put the choke on when its running the bike seems to richen up and rev up (so im guessing the chokes working)

    any ideas?

    please help
    thanks
    Dave

150psi on compression is fine for these old beasts, and the fact it runs and starts warm is good.

It runs rich and speeds up when you hit the choke warm? I would have expected it to flood and or stall, so possibly its not enriching enough.

Any Across owners out there? What happens when you put the choke on when warm? does it speed up and run rich, or cut out?

    zero.

I will evade the question, as I have run some old engines that have low compression, that others have said would not run.

If you are pumping 150 it will start and run just fine. Compression is not the problem.

Old bikes and cold starting.... now thats a different issue.
There was a knack with my old FZR250 when it was very cold, 5% throttle and crank while slowly opening the choke.

Worked every time for me, but not for others.

May I ask what is your starting technique?

Try starting cold with half choke and no throttle.

Then next day try again with full choke and no throttle

Then finally next day with no choke and no throttle and post results.

I have an Across. They're hard to start when they're cold and from what i've been told that's just how they are.

They do flood easy, I pretty rarely start it with the choke fully on.

You may need to play with the idle some too.
