    Had my first lesson today...

    And I'm bloody hooked!
Had a 2 hour lesson with John at Global Motorcycle Skills and even though he only had me doing laps of a car park on a VTR250 and despite me not having any experience, I got up to changing gear (up to 3rd) confidently.
Going to book another one for next week.
Can't wait til I can get a bike of my own and out on the road!

Bit of both I think. He said he very rarely gets people that pick it up that quickly, and to be honest it felt really natural. Without blowing my own trumpet of course...
Hopefully the rest of the lessons go so smoothly!

congratulations, you now know enough to be dangerous

as long as the confidence level doesn't build faster than the skill level you'll be fine

i remember my first ride/lesson vividly,

me: can i have a ride?
family friend: sure, do you know how?
me: yeah of course i've been watching.
family friend: ok then if you can get it going you can have a ride.
i got it rolling easy enough and even selected 2nd gear, but as i rounded the first tight corner i rolled the throttle on as i turned the handle bars and took off rapidly then lowsided, i was tall for my age so they didn't realise i had only recently turned 5

Congrats mate, i remember posting my first lesson thread!

The feeling of riding cant be compared to anything else.
Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
In the backroads as it is on the freeway
Give us this day our high-octane premium fuel
    And forgive us our lanesplitting
As we forgive the four wheel drives, the volvos and the taxis
And lead us not into gravel corners
But deliver us from hand-held radars
For thine is thy leather, thy denim, thy Gore-Tex and thy Kevlar

Awesome!! Yes as a few have said that first lesson is memorable. I was lucky with my first lesson as i already had the road knowledge just needed to get confident on the bike and then we hit the road after about 20-30 mins.

Also if you think your first lesson was good wait until your first solo ride once you have your licence!! that is unreal!

Yeah Congrats, it's great fun. I was the same i had 1 lesson with Grunts Motorcycle training and he said that i could have just rode from my house rather then riding bitch until we got to a carpark. Was pretty sweet. I was the same with driving though picked that up easy. Goodluck with getting your own bike and goodluck with your test when ever it is. HOpe to be riding with you soon.

Sweet. I found him a really good instructor as he just told me what I should be doing and worked it out for myself and left me to it, which is exactly how I like to be taught!

    Well done guys!

I've just had a 4 hour session with Johnny today.... first lesson... went from absolutely zero experience and knowledge on a bike, to riding out on the road in the last hour... had an absolute ball... seriously had the biggest grin on me the entire time... my cheeks are still sore... also bloody aching shoulders, neck and back... but those will be conditioned with more bum on seat time... meanwhile... love the heat cream... lol

Just had my second lesson 2 weeks after my last one, and I'm still hooked!
Did some low speed techniques, mainly steering/countersteering on Johns VTR250 and then the 250 Ninja, it feels incredibly natural!
Had a couple of issues downshifting and accidentally sticking it into neutral, but a bit of practice put that right!
Watch out Perth, I'm on the roads next week...

Oh and Choona, I heard about your 8 hour lesson (!) yesterday and the helmet issues.
Sounds like you boys had a ball!

Yeah we had a blast! Went down at one of the car parks near Freo, and did some cornering, emergency braking and slow speed turns... and then headed out to Mundaring Weir Road... was scraping my footpegs on my bike too... mind you, scared the crap out of me first time I did it... one more lesson just before my test this week to go... good luck with your test mate, and hopefully see you out on the roads soon! Admittedly, I was absolutely knackered after the 8 hours out there... but loved every second of it!

Yeah, thats where I've had my 2 lessons, up near Rous Head. Got my slow speed turns and cornering nailed, going on to e-braking next time I think, and onto some road skills.

Probably not going to be too long until my test, fingers crossed!

Also, how much did he charge you for that 8 hour lesson? I'm guessing its more than the standard $200...

I paid him upfront for a 10-hour package... and it was suppose to be a 4 hr lesson, with likely to go over a little, turning into the 8 hr session... but that's including stopping for lunch and a couple of coffee breaks... but taking the times out of it, we were still on the saddle for at least 6 hours...
