Just how crippled and / or blind is your 'big fella' rider in this comparison?
Having a new bike is awesome, but these things are pretty expensive and you're paying a lot of money in 'trendy tax'. They're new, shiny look as though they have sporting aspirations, but I'm not altogether convinced they're any better than the GPX they've replaced.

Everything i've heard about the new Ninja 250 indicates that its a massive improvement over the GPX as far as handling goes - assuming you can ride it of course.
17" wheels, suspension that actually works, styling brought up to mid 2000s standard... Its not a bad little bike.
And a Ninja 250 WILL keep up with bigger bikes around suburban perth if its a "limit +/- run" (ie, keeping out of "go directly to jail" speeds - say up to 90km/h) even if the big bore rider is of pretty typical standard (ie, not awesome, but not completely incompetent either). I've seen it done (murley, on one of the river runs). Was following him on the 600RR, and he was holding plenty of speed in the corners. Obviously they'll get eaten alive on the straights, but that goes without saying, being a 250...
edit:
As far as TRADE IN figures go - you'll be lucky to get 4k in 12 months.
I got 4k as a trade in on my 12 month old ZZR250, and they were $8100 new. It was in good condition, never dropped, etc, etc.
If you bought a Ninja 250 thinking you'll get your money back on a trade in 12 months, you're in for a shock - to get most of it back you'd need to sell privately.

well i downgraded from the waiting list on a 250R and instead got a 07 zzr and i find it great as long as i keep the revs around/above 6-7k. underneath that and theres no torque at all. ive got 170km out of it and i hardly think i need anymore until R's, so im happy with my choice considering im a tall bloke and i sat on a 250R, changing gears would have been a nightmare, specially downshifting. zzr is also really comfortable for commuting, i rode to dwellingup then bodington and back through armadale to home and i didnt have a single issue of being uncomfortable. bigger seat on a zzr and also a much bigger pillion seat. doesnt take long to start up once you know how to work a choke (took be a bit of practise). it was also cheaper so if you can get a zzr for 1k less than a 250r and not have to wait in a queue for 12 weeks (i got to 8weeks before switching) then id do it. this was also my first motorcycle of any kind.

If your looking for one Kim Britton Kawasaki I think had a couple on Tuesday, he always seems to get a couple in even when the other places are sold out. Dont know if hes well conected or just really good at catching stuff off the back of the truck.
I didn't like them at first but he waited around the shop the other night so I could pick my bike up after work, now I think he's alright.

Is it $3000 better?
I mean, just going off average price of a second hand gpx/zzr vs new 250 Ninja.
Stir, stir, stir the pot.

is a new ER6 $6000 better than an old RGV?
Its all relative dude, if you have the money in your pocket and want a nice 250, would you buy one that handles like shit and bottoms out with anyone heavier than 50kg on it, or would you buy something with updated suspension technology from the 1990s?
edit:
Again, relatively speaking. The GPX is a fine noob bike. but try and tell me the suspension is any good and I'll laugh
