    Kids pocket bikes

I'd like to get my son into riding (he's 7) & I've seen these pocket bike things advertised. Are they good for kids, or are they an adult novelty thing? You always seem to see drunk 30 somethings on them!

Any suggestions on where I could get a cheap one? Are there reputable names, or are they all just the same?

Checkout PBAWA Home Page, and maybe talk to bomoto they have both Juniors and Seniors, not sure about the minimum age for juniors...but it provides a safe environment for the young fella to ride the pocket bike

Failing the pocket bike idea theres always jumior motocross
A Pee Wee 50 is a pretty bullet proof little bike and there are a few motocross clubs around as well as the trail and enduro club - T & E MCC - Home Page

My young bloke started late last year, he is a member of Chidlow Junior mx and Trail and Enduro, he's looking forward to the start of the season.
It's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

Hassle with the pocketbikes is convenience of somewhere to ride them, and the carbs are really fiddly. I had a couple for my kids and we had them out for a ride once in the time I owned them - the rest of it was spent trying to get the fucking things running for more than 20 seconds. And that one time was on an oval for soft falls: had a ranger come along we (I) would have been raped.

Motocross would probably have been a better one, in hindsight...

Yep, minimum age is 7, we have a 5 round race series this year at wanneroo kart track and heaps of practice dates. We should have a field of 6-10 Juniors for competition!!

Try Movement Systems in Burswood, they sell everything you need and will let you know what to do to it to make it reliable!!

Peewee 50 has shaft drive, so no chopped fingers etc, throttle governor, and there is an eBay shop that sells training wheels if required

Grab a pw50 or pw80 made in Japan (3 speed, Centrifugal Clutch). Bets way to learn and easy to maintain.
They are quiet enough for the oval as not to draw too much attention and you can put non mx tyres for motard & pocket bike racing if needed (Best check pocket bike racing guys re that).
YI have two pocket bikes for the kids as they race them in the cul de sac but nieghbours get shirty and I'm sick of trying to tune a carby that won't tune.
    PW's more fun.
That's My two bob and all.

Don't forget BMX racing as an introduction for kids. There's some fun to be had at Southside BMX, Bull Creek on Saturday mornings.

My boys have been riding this one for the last year or so they are 6 and 8

Quad is up and running - YouTube

Quad is the way to go to get them used to riding something without their feet going down.
Motors are a bitch sometimes, was very lucky to have a mate give me a couple of motors he wasn't using so we got it going again.

Buy a stupidly loud one and head up north (past wanneroo) where all the impotent old people live, then cut that shit up in their cul-de-sacs.

Yeah people forget that quads have a tendency to roll/flip... Usually over your body, crushing bones. Sure, bikes do too, but size for size (engine), they don't have as much mass. I'd recommend 2 wheels over 4 any day of the week.

There have been many reports of people becoming quads and paras after quad accidents, they roll onto them and the added mass is enough to snap shit irreparably.
Zach will be getting a PW and training wheels.
