    Regarding Andrea of MTWA.

Called three times, 17/2/10, 18/2/10 and 31/3/10 leaving a message each time regarding R class lessons and he didn't return a single call.

Is he no longer doing rider training or has he got that many students, he doesn't need to answer his phone messages anymore?

Have you gone to the website and had a look there?? Andrea is pretty busy, would have thought he'd answer phone messages though, what times are you calling, lunchtimes or just before the hour in case he has lesson's

I mixed the times up both morning and afternoon, avoiding early mornings and late afternoons which is their busiest times for riders before/after work. I've never expected an instructor to actually answer a phone call. No matter what time you call!

Anyway, I received a couple of sms from andrea sorting out what happened. The first two calls I left in febuary, he passed both of them over to other instructors to follow up as his GS500 is "not working" so he couldn't take on any "R" class. Neither of those instructors followed up and obviously andrea didn't know that.
The last call I made was two days before easter and andrea was on holidays at the time. I never realised it was a long weekend coming up, it's that busy at work.

Real shame that I couldn't have gotten lessons with him. He was Ambers first recommendation and I've heard from a few places that he is top notch. Oh well, we shall carry on.

    Verdict: GUILTY...lol

I'm glad we managed to understand what happened! I can understand your frustration... nothing worst of someone that does not return calls...
Days are getting shorter...plus the last few months I have been doing betwen 42 to 54 lessons a week as the weather has been really nice and everyone is trying to get their license before winter kicks in....

It's a shame that the 2 other instructors did not followed up.....as that is a normal routine between instructors of helping each others when you need some help....I guess the they did not deserve your money too

I do strongly believe a busy instructor is a good instructor....for the NEWBIE that are approaching your first lesson remember some points:

    1) you guys are paying top dollars for your lesson....an instructor that do answer work calls during a lesson is not doing a good job as his focus should be on you!

    2) as money do not grow on tree in this days....make sure you are getting a FULL 1 hour lesson....riding as a pillion on the instructors bike for 20min to get into a car park and 20 min to ride back is a waste of money....I heard story of instructors talking about "personal" life issues to their students....your not paying for that bullshit

    3) make sure your instructor is a "qualified" instructor certified by DOT ( Department of Transport) he needs to carry an original copy of his Green Book....if not sure don't feel shy to ask.

From an instructor point of view our working day can start as earlie as 6am and finish as late as 6.30pm in winter...returning calls sometime can be difficult especially when your ass as been sitting on a bike for so long...I do not want to justify instructors out there but sometime we do prefer txt message as easier to reply or to store on your phone

    Have fun.

    Andrea

Gotta agree with Fantasia88: Mark's ace. Reasonable when it comes to times and availability, does his best to accomodate you, can come to you, if you're a little late and he hasn't got a lesson afterwards he'll try to give you a full hour/hour and a half, patient, knows his stuff, friendly but doesn't waste your time with anecdotes unless you're waiting at the lights

Had a few lessons with him and would have passed my first test if I was awake. Two more lessons and got a clean sheet the next time. Knew the assessors and the areas for testing, predicted where they took me both times. Can't ask for more.

Hey guys.. have to agree with vale46.. Instructors are becoming a dime a dozen and you have to take the time to fish the ppl that are passionate about their profession and not just counting money.

Instructors that will take the time to talk to you, that have a welcoming personality and like vale said, not jabber about their personal issues or random stuff with no meaning to your lesson during your PAID lesson, are the ones you wanna stick with.

I met a few while i was becoming an instructor as well as my obvious getting my RE and R and well most fell very short of the mark.

Lessons now costing up to $80 and hour you wanna make sure you get what you've paid for and feel free to ask for qualifications, feedback and if your not happy speak up! A professional instructor will work harder to make sure they deliver their trade to your satisfaction.

Good luck L platers! Feel free to PM me if you need any help.

I wanted to recommend Mark from Elite Motorcycles. I've had 2 others (both listed above). Most of my lessons were done with someone else who was ok but not in the same league as Mark. My original instructor went on holidays but I wanted to get my licence before he returned. Booked in at another place but walked out before the lesson began. I don't suffer fools gladly. Won't mention the name of the place. Wish I'd started with Mark! They also give PSB members a discount. You won't go wrong.
