I was just thinking that it might be good to pull a heap of different 250's together, get a few experienced riders to rate them, then get some basic info like fuel consumption, tyres available and servicing costs, and post it all up to give newer riders something to go on.[/quote]
^^^WHS^^^
brilliant idea... I would have liked more info about different bikes before buying my fist one, and not just a salesman's opinion. Experienced riders opinions about handling etc would be a great starting reference for new riders
just a thought though, but there have been a few shorties lately, perhaps also include info on how suitable for short/tall riders, such as the height/width of the seat?
just my 2c....

From what i've heard, the big thing over the gpx is that the suspension works, somewhat.
Rather than just being a squishy pile of shit - the major major thing, imho that let the GPX down in a big way was that the suspension (rear in particular) was just way too soft to handle properly - anyone bigger than about 70kg will compress it far too much.
I should go test ride one...
edit:
Not to say the GPX is/was a useless first bike - as a first bike, they're fine. They're certainly flawed though.
And oh yeah, desmo brings up a very valid point for the 250 market: tyre availability.
Good tyres can make a WORLD of difference to your bike. If there's no decent tyres available for your bike, you're missing out on a huge benefit (this was another GPX problem - being 16 inch rims, there was jack shit available for it).
