    25 and over? Sweet.

I have a friend in Sydney who recently got his open license after having restricted for a total of about a month. He turned 30 and a few weeks later, had his open.

Key word is CONSIDERING. It's like when you're a kid and your parents say maybe. It just means it's not happening any time soon.
    Feels good man.

Don't stress out Grubby, it might not even happen. But from what I was told those under 25 will still be able to get an R license, only they'll have to do an R test. I think the idea is by the time your 25 you've done all the crazy stuff.

so it's actually about "maturity" and "mental stability"
    I don't have signature.

I was having a conversation with the 18 yr old house mate of a friend of mine about obtaining bike licences. I told him how I obtained mine, which was a Stay Upright day course to obtain 'L's and then a day course to obtain 'P's. After explaining what we learnt in these courses the young fella asks "Why do you need to know all that stuff?" My response "Well motorcycling isn't a pastime thats overly tolerant of mistakes".

I think that the more training the better. The time limits imposed before obtaining your Rs is an attempt to get you more experience on a less powerful bike. 250's were once slow bikes. Now some are rockets and I think the LAMs system could have value. I personally would like to see the yr of 250 (or LAM if it got in) upheld, with a test for under 25 yr olds. Over 25's who haven't lost their licence before to be able to change to R's automatically. Or something like that. Not sure if 25 is the magic age or if some people even have one, but then again some people that get their R's probably shouldn't even ride let alone be licenced. Mental maturity is hard to measure.

It s close to what it s done in France, Need to be over eighteen, no 250cc license only R license, the only changes are that you need to have 20 or more hours of drive with instructor (And i mean proper Driving school...) and your first bike is limited to 600cc (the limitation is in Hp but I can remember how high, it s a standard 600...)
Good point is you how to ride..bad point it cost around $7000 to pass you license + finding the time to go to 20 hours of driving....

    2008-1983=25...

    sweet

lol. It's good news for me if it comes through, because it saves me sitting the test, but I'd be sticking to the 350 until I think I've had enough experience anyway (which is why I haven't gone for my R class yet, despite being eligible.
No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

It should be more about power : weight (actually just power IMO) rather than capacity. a race 250 two stroke motor can produce upwards of 100 hp (if you wanted to put one in a road bike and live with the servicing) so the current system is flawed if abused in the right way. This will allow larger bikes that are less powerful than a RGV250 to be ridden, for example I would love to have a DRZ400, but I am excluded even though I could get a 250 that is faster and IMO more dangerous.
