    Ninja 250 gear changer problem

Ok so I recently bought my first bike a 2010 Ninja from Causeway Kawasaki and I took it out for my first long ride with my old man out to Mundaring, when we finally reached the top to pull over for a stretch, we got back on for the ride back I couldn't get it to change out of first gear. We pulled over and tried for ages trying to get it to change past neutral into 2nd, and only when we decided that we both had no service and the only option was for me to ride back in first, then while riding back it started to work again. The problem is i took it to the kawasaki shop and they said that as its not a recurring problem they could still open it up and have a look but if they find no defect the remaining warranty wont cover it, but the guy said it may be a spring in the clutch plate or a selector issue. Now im stuck because the lever is working again but i cant pay for it if nothings wrong and I don’t want to go on long rides for the fear of it happening again

So has anyone else experienced these problems before? Do I have any legal stance with the shop as I’ve only had the bike 2 weeks? i.e. a loan bike while its in the shop?

Sounds like it could be more of a selector issue. If it was just the clutch you should still be able to shift clutchless.
If the problem isn't present legally you'll have nothing because you can't prove that the problem exists.

Can you thing of anything that might have stirred it up ? (ie some shitty shifting or stalls recently before the problem appeared)
Also is this the first/only time it's occurred ?
What km's has the bike got ?

About the loan bike, in my experience I've always been given a free loan bike whilst having a service done on my own. So I imagine they should have something to offer you.

Ride it as much as possible within the warranty period and see what happens. Start with rides close to home.

Don't forget the warranty is not with the dealer, its the manufacturer. If they pull the bike apart and find nothing, they will not get paid for doing it.
