    A Ninja Down!

    Hey all,

I originally intended this post to tell everyone how much i was enjoying riding, and how great the Stay Upright Intermediate Course i did this morning was.

Unfortunately now i'm telling the story of my first motorbike crash!

Did the course this morning - it was awesome, great instructors, great fun, great lessons.

About 5mins from home on the way back - i was coming up to a right hander, saw a little kid on the lil median strip in the middle road and buffered to to outside of the corner - started to turn in and just as i got past the point of no return - his little mate (turns out they where playing "Army" and hiding from each other trying to tag one another) runs out of his hiding spot, across the road and directly into my path.

Cause id already buffered i had no space on the left, so tightened up (no time to brake) managed to avoid the kid, but in the process i had a slow speed low side on my 1 month old 2010 Ninja 250R!

My pride and joy scratched and damaged! End result isnt so bad - scratched RHS mirror, scratched muffler, scratched brake lever, scratch RHS fairing under the indicator, and a smashed RHS indicator.

The indicator is the main problem - the flexible mount is fine, the indicator itself has broken apart and needs to be replaced. I've been left with the two wire (with just straight connectors on them?)

How hard is it to fix that? Replacement indicator and just plug it in? because the indicator is broken i cant see how the wires attach.

    Thanks guys!

sorry to hear. at least you're allright but.

the indicator is an easy fix.

get one from ebay or a dealer, take fairing panel off and you'll see the connector for the indicator to the wiring loom. just unplug the broken one and plug the new one in. easy as that.

I know it's not a great feeling, but at the end of the day if the kid(s) are alright, and you are alright, then it's a good outcome.

Most people come off at least once, if that can be your once, then you've done well

Good luck with the fix, it doesn't sound like a big job
Customer: Look, there's no other way to say this, but I didn't come in here to be insulted.
Bernard: Well, I didn't ask for the job of insulting you. In another life, we could have been brothers. Running a small, quirky taverna in Sicily. Maybe we would have married the local twins instead of wasting each other's time here in this dump. But it was not to be. So hopit.

This is the side of motorcyclists people need to see, poor bugger drops his pride and joy to avoid hitting someone who shouldn't have been there. P plater in a v8 commodore could have been a tragedy. Good work hope the repairs don't hurt the wallet too much.

    Welcome to PSB.
Glad to hear the training you did in the morning, saved you both in the arvo.
Plastic can be mended straight away...but scars take a long time to heal.
Sounds like you took the best course of action and as a friend once said " now your bike has character " and a story to match ;-)

Sorry to hear. At least none were injured and there's a lesson here: If there are small children on or near the road, you should be moving at no more than a jog pace... Ideally children shouldn't be on or near the road, but that's another story.

Dropped the bike to save the kids, what a champion.

And here I thought all motorcycles ran off the blood of the innocent and motorcyclists drop kick puppies for a hobby.

Send a bill to parents. You wont get anything out of it but you might at least make them think about letting they're kids play on the road.

Thanks guys! spoke to the bike shop and i'll ride it there on thursday to get fixed - hopefully wont get pulled up by cops for no indicator. Wont cost too much. I will leave the other scratches on it (bye bye resale dollars).

The kids buggered off once i stopped being in shock and started getting angry.

But i remember faces - i may take a day off work and hunt around the neighborhood...

Good job avoiding the kid. I've broken two indicators on my hyosung. One my brother dropped my bike and ones i dropped it reversing. The indicator is very easy to replace. Just one bolt and two male female wires. I'd assume it's the same with your bike. I didn't even need to remove any fairings.

Lucky that your first fall is a slow one, I fell off at 70ks trying to avoid a bus haha

But as everybody is saying, mega easy fix, grab a new indicator of ebay and just bolt it on.

oh crumbs that ol' army game eh.. I always won because of my fully sik commando rolls and my super rad shooting sound effects

good work on avoiding the rug rats but sucks about your bike. no one wants 'character' down the side of their bike.

What are those courses like? I want in
