Hey Guys,
JUst thought I'd let everyone know - I passed today up at Joondalup.
Thanks to Steve at Elite - fantastic instructor!!!
Had a lesson before the test and got drenched!!!!
THen had the test with Kelvin - was pretty good, told me to go where I'd just had my lesson, went from licensing centre to McLarty Road, where pulled over then straight into O turns (clockwise), 3 off, then told me to go up and do emergency brake, wasn't too worried about distance, (they give you 16m in wet), more control.
Quick spin up candlewood drive then back down to lakeside and to licensing centre, spent more time stopped at lights than driving.
I definately think having Steve there shows you've had professional instruction and then showing confidence and control for the eseentials, he seemed pretty happy with the way I rode. Just kept doing endless head checking.
Hopefully some tips for anyone having their test up at Joondalup!
Cheers
Tim

It does - cheers.
My jeans are still drying now!!
I see you have a red gpx - same as me, I'm in Sorrento - will have to tee a ride up once you're licensed.
If you have your test at Joondalup, I would 100% recommend getting lessons with Steve up there, he takes you through all the known routes and gets you familiar with the area and where the tricky merge etc places are - every little bit helps!

Yeah I had Steve for my R-E. He also got me back on the road for the first time after a serious crash. Only reason he didn't take me for my R was coz I managed to get a cancellation spot at the last minut. Couldn't recommend him highly enough.
Well done! This opens up a whole new world to you hey? Just be careful! Remember you're still getting experience and don't get to cocky! (Sorry I sound like your Mum, don't I? )
Congratulations on passing the test!

Well done Tim, congratulations!
I heard on this forum that the Morley examiners were headed up to Joondalup. Sounds like they weren't too bad on you so maybe the guys didn't make it up there.
Maybe they got examined...

Is steve a instructor or examiner?
Im with brian from stay upright. And untill this day have never riden the streets of joondalup. Im hoping the hour before might be enough. Otherwise im getting the feeling i might have some disadvantge.

Nah no disadvantage. The hour should be plenty. Just look out for bus stops and keep an eye on the speed zones. Bus stops are the only really sneaky thing that they do up there. If they say "Pull up anywhere on the left" make sure you aren't parking in front of a bus stop. Good luck!
Oh - and Steve is an instructor from Elite.

Thanks to all for the congrats - much appreciated.
If you are having your test at Joondalup, I would have thought your instructor would take you up there to get familiar with the area, particularly the intersections and merge points/ roundabouts / school zones etc as from what Steve told me during my lessons, these are simple things that ppl fail on all the time.
For your next lesson, ask your instructor if you can meet and start from the license centre carpark and do your lesson in the area.
Just a friendly suggestion though. Definately what helped me get through, no hassles.
Cheers
Tim

I'm going to disagree with Pen's reply and say get as much experience in the area you are doing your test in as you can. When the examiner says something like "Turn right at the end of the drive way, then right again onto the highway, then first left at set of lights, then go through the next 3 set of lights and then your first turn left, then left again down to the end of the street and pull over where it is safe to do so..." is a damn sight easier in familiar surroundings than if you have never been to the area before...
Sure, you are not being tested on being able to follow directions, however if you look really timid on the bike 'cause you don't know where the fark you are and you start doing silly things as a result due to nerves etc, you possibly won't be deemed ready - then again, I guess if you are really timid and start doing farking stupid things then you aren't ready for your license...
Anyways, I reckon it helps to be familiar with the area so you can concentrate on the riding rather the directions.

Agreed...I was alot calmer doing my test in welshpool because i knew the area i was being taken in. When i did my test in Midland I was too busy concentrating on not getting lost!!

Yeh sure. Well my step-grandad has put his hand up to take me for a ride this saturday. I see alot of you have done the test there, where abouts exactly should I go riding, around the bmt? or whatever that club is? And around those streets or does he go as far up as that rode alongside the shops?
Thanks in advance
