Riding out of class under LAMS in SA

    Hi all,
I have had my learners for a long time due to being on and off bikes. I recently got my P's however I am a year away from my R class license.
I know the system in WA is different but in SA we can ride up to 650+cc bikes as long as they are on the list of approved learner bikes.

My question: If I ride a bike out of class such as a Suzuki RF600R, will I receive a monetary fine or lose my license on the spot?
I am situated in South Australia if that helps

reason being: my cbr 125 was totalled in an accident where the other driver was at fault but AAMI is refusing to cough up, they have been playing the dummy with me over the phone for the past month and I cant justify buying another piece of **** 250 for $4k+

I know that such a person would not be covered by insurance in event of an accident, I am just at a loss in terms of my options. The accident was 100% other drivers fault, she admitted it to me, the police and her insurance company. AAMI are just full of dicks who hate anything on two wheels (at least in SA, may be different elsewhere).

From your Drivers handbook in SA (online version)
    Never held a licence, or does not hold the correct licence to drive that class of vehicle;
    First Offence; Maximum fine $2,500
Second offence within three years; Maximum fine of $5,000 or one years imprisonment
    Three years licence disqualification (minimum)

So buy a 650, or go without a bike? $2.5k first time OOC in SA, we need that shit here. Then all of the "should I ride out of class?" threads would have people responding with "Yes", and everyone will be happy.

    To the OP...

You got lams, why would you even ride out of class, plenty of nice motorbikes in that section. If you do your homework with the bike you buy you will barely lose any money.

    Don't be stupid.

Yeah, you should ride one of those lambs you have. Or failing that, kill it and roast it up and forget your woes.

In all seriousness X, no, there aren't plenty of nice motorbikes in that section. Not for me, anyway. Not that I'd want to hang on to for longer than the year I was forced to.

Buy an SV650S LAMS or a GSX650F LAMS and then in however many months you get your R class, trade the LAMS model up to the full model and you will barely lose anything. Stop whinging about needing to get something in the LAMS bracket when we are stuck with bunky 250's for our first year.

Not all 250's are bunky - you chose the CBF

OP was riding a 125cc bike... there are tonnes of better options under Lam bikes to get him through a year IMO. Just had a look at the lam approved bikes

all the 250/400cc inline 4's Tonnes of nakeds going from all the way to 600cc. Supermotos...

Don't get me wrong I'm against license restrictions but they do have better than we do.
