Test riding dealership R-Class bikes on R-E licence (R- Learners)

I'm in the market to upgrade to a bigger bike and I'd like to test ride some of the dealership bikes but I'm unsure what the deal is with doing so whilst on my R-class learners. The blokes from Lloyd Chapman didn't really give me an answer so I'm assuming if I turn up with a shadow I can do so (as if I had a full license)?

EDIT: Mega-fail....found what I need with the search button

    What are you looking at?

Everything . Atleast the main fours and hopefully the new 675r. Of course it would be awesome to test ride the 848 but can't see that happening

I got the ok to test a 1098s on my L's, as well as an MV 312r. You just gotta put in the right light and let them know that you are actually seriously considering purchasing what your testing.

As long as you make it clear that you are seriously considering buying a bike soon, otherwise they will turn you away.
Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
In the backroads as it is on the freeway
Give us this day our high-octane premium fuel
    And forgive us our lanesplitting
As we forgive the four wheel drives, the volvos and the taxis
And lead us not into gravel corners
But deliver us from hand-held radars
For thine is thy leather, thy denim, thy Gore-Tex and thy Kevlar

They don't have to know that. I probably wasn't buying from a dealer either and both the bikes that I took out, were worth around 35k a piece

It's much easier if you just wait until you get your R.

Nothing, didn't even get my R class. Long story involving inproperly secured loads, the freeway, being struck by more than 1 car and a 3 week coma. Suffice to say, it was a freak accident that couldn't be avoided, yet to get back on a bike as well

Anytest ride is a risk to binning it. If you don't know how to ride they'll spot it from the start.

If you want any private bike 99.5% of the owners are going to tell you to test it at a dealership.

then you'd be better off buying yhe bike elsewhere^^^^^. seriously if you can't test ride THE bike your buying, handing over the proper I.D. etc (yes i know bikes get stolen in test rides etc..) why would you buy it privately?? you have no protection from that odd rattle you hear on the way home at 60k after you've handed over your money.... test ride a new bike at a dealers then buy second hand bike you havn't riden privately??? dude i got a bridge to sell you if your interested....

On the other hand, if someone on L plates wanted to test a bike I was selling, either privately or as a dealer (still my bike, my money) I'd be "get fucked. If someone needs to test it for testing that the bike is ok, get a mate who has their licence to do it."

If someone on their RE learners wobbled in to test and buy your 250, would you let them test ride it? Sorry, you'd be an idiot if you did. And despite how good the RE/R-learners think they might be, this is no different...

FYI I had my RE learners when I bought my bike from Dale Brittons and was encouraged into a test ride without any form of prompting.

At the end of the day if you are at a dealership the number 1 way they are going to sell you a bike is by getting your ass on the seat. Their insurance is there for a reason and WILL cover learners despite what they say.

And as for if I met a private bike seller that told me to go test a brand new bike instead of their bike...well I would be looking elsewhere straight away!

I wouldn't let someone test ride my bike unless I was sure they were confident (regardless of L's or not). My first time on the road (officially) on a motorcycle was test riding a 250 last year, the seller judged that I was capable and allowed me to do it. They aren't idiots if they can make that call correctly
