Not necessarily. If it is a single lane you should be riding in the dominant position, which is to the right of the centre of your lane. You can see better if cars pull out from their driveways, or parked cars opening their doors on the side of your lane, not to mention idiot drivers thinking that they can squeeze past you in the same lane. There are many more things to know that can not be memorised overnight so don't stress yourself remembering many new ideas/tips - only make it worse and lead to indecisiveness during the test. They only become second nature after many lessons and feedbacks from the instructors. Just relax and do your best.

The examiners will be looking to see you on the left of the oil on a single lane and right on a two lane. Did a test only a few weeks ago so still fresh in mind.

+1. Besides the reasons mentioned above, the left side of the centre is where the excess oil goes because roads usually slope towards the kerb or verge for drainage purpose, so it is slippier than the right side, especially after the first rain.

^^^ WHS
I think for the test either way can be justified, so long as ur not on the oil strip and ur not riding so far either side that a cage can push u over/squeeze past.
I was taught:
- left side of single lane (keeps u away from oncoming traffic)
- left side single lane with emergency lane
- right side single lane with island
- right side left lane dual carriage way or left side right lane
Essentially the rule was to leave urself as many safe "out" options as possible
Be it that ur in a dual carriage way and a car next to u is swerving into ur lane, just get the fuck away quick as regardless of which side of the oil u pick
Oh, and also tauhgt to stay away from painted arrows etc on the road - slippery as
....Sooooo its almost noon and the test was in the morning.... How did it go???

He either passed and is too busy riding to let us know how he went - or the news is not good. Hopefully he will not keep us in suspense too long.

I don't think it really matters where you are on the road for the test, I think you just need to use common sense. If there are cars parked on the side of the road and it's a single lane without an island, are you going to ride on the left side of the road? Only if you want a car door swung out and for you to be superman for a few split seconds.
Not being sarcastic but just ride safely and obey the road rules. Add some over enthusiastic head checks (which you should be doing regardless of bike/car) so they can see your helmet move, indicate appropriately, give yourself plenty of time when cornering and move yourself out of the way of danger ie if you're turning right, get way over to the right, if you're turning left, get way over to the left.
Practise your o-turns (with a helmet) and don't lock up your wheels when e-braking.
Voila!

Haven't heard a thing, I think we should assume that he didn't pass and he is hiding under a rock until such time as he books a couple of lessons
But if not, then let us know will ya <_<

Yeh it seems he hasn't come back on since the day of his test. Heh maybe he gave up on riding, or he only came on for advice not for the community..

Wrong. Motorcycles are exempt from the law that requires other vehicles to keep to the left, as of the 2000 Road Traffic Code.
Either postion (right or left) is ok, depending on the situation at that particular moment on that part of the road. You can NOT be in the oil, and when moving from left wheel track to right wheel track you MUST check you blind spot. And you should not be moving across the road every two seconds, unless there are land mines!
The generally accepted "safest and dominant" position is
Single lane - just the the right of the oil - ie right wheel track
Dual lane - in the left land to right of the oil, in the right lane, to the left of the oil.

I think Bec means that you shouldn't just be riding in the same line on the road, you need to be moving into the right lane if there is a car on the left side of the road waiting in a side street, back over to the left if the car on the right is way to close kinda thing, safety margin always there, plus it keeps the cagers behind you aware of you, that's my take on what she means anyway

Just with the last one, I was told to ride on the island side of a dual carrige way. Is this wrong?
