    VTR 250 tyre alternative

My son low sided his VTR last night no damage thanks to the Oggy
nobs, I was following him it was at low speed 40-50k corner and his rear tyre just slid out.
Thinking maybe the stock tyre (which kinda looks like a wet weather heavily treaded) tyre is not up to the task.
Any other VTR riders had issues with this tyre Brigestone EXEDRA G 602
and if so what did you replace it with.
Im thinking sticky and grippy !! bugger the longevity rather he has to replace tyre's than skin.

Also, how was the tyre pressure ? When he slid, was it after you had been riding for a while or initial/cold after take off ? Those particular Bridgestone's aren't hi-spec, however will work fine on the VTR. May have just hit some oil/grease/sand/Mariah-Carey CD on the road to cause it to slide.

Semi mentions P-Powers above, they'd be a significant upgrade in grip. You'll find everyone likes something a bit different though, so it's a bit of trial and error. Some enjoy the feeling of having no grip and poor feedback, whilst others would rather be able to feel more what the tyre is doing and act accordingly.

You may want to (carefully) experiment with pressures too, as often OEM specs suggest a fairly high tyre pressure for (standard) setups ... This is often quite high (e.g. 42psi rear) which could be a tad slippery ...

    Thanks torq ,
will check his psi tomorrow you may be on the money
The tyres are only 1500km old, had a chat with my mech. at Motorcycle weaponry here on the East coast.
He knows the corner and said if he was leaning over that far on that particular corner and ran out of rubber then we ned to get him racing on a track
Most likely he grounded his peg scraper lifting the rear wheel a bees dick would be enough to make the tyre let go or most likely a diesel or oil spill.
He said those tyres even though he was doing himself out of a sale are fine.
Thanks for all the quick response.

My VTR's still got the original G601 and G602 tyres on it and I haven't had any major grip issues with them (though I would like some new ones, given they're probably five years old now). Have you checked the rear shock on it? When mine degassed late last year the rear end handling went to shit.

I run the stockers, I think they're great tbh. They do get pretty sticky after a hefty ride.

Tyre pressure is a really big thing though with these tyres.. I run 34psi front and 36psi rear.
There's no chance of "running out of tyre", I've track'd my bike and gone lower than some of the other bikes with larger tyres.

The tyre is definately up to it, your young bloke just low sided it..
