    VTR250 Helmet Holder?

My 2nd hand VTR250 didn't come with the helmet holder cable. I found a sketch of what it is in the scanned 4th-gen photocopy off the net:

    helmet-holder.jpg

So I found a little steel hook under the seat above the seat lock key that looks like it is in the same position. Is the helmet holder cable just a steel cable with a eyelets at each end that you loop over that hook? How long is the helmet holder cable? Is it something you can buy - or should I just make one myself?

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could take a close up picture of theirs...

I just keep a padlock in my pocket and lock it to the bracket.

22ish cm long cable, 4-5mm cable, loop at each end, covered in plastic. You could just make something up and plastic coat it. The exposed steel scrapes the paint off around the hook anyway. If it really worries you, you could ask about it at a Honda dealer.

Take it with you, nothing worse than putting a lid on that smells like someone else's stale piss.

True - mind you I wasn't actually planning on using it. A bit like having the toolkit under the seat - nice to know it is there if I ever need it, but I wouldn't use it by choice.

I had somewhat of an altercation with a drunk guy pissing in some randoms lid that was attached to his bike.
Never have I left a lid with a bike since, you spend hundreds on a good lid, why leave it just hanging there? Doesn't make sense.

Agreed - I'd never walk away and leave it like that. But after seeing someone's lid fall to the bitumen in a gust of wind from where it was balanced on their handlebars at the pre-ride meet at an LNR, I thought it would be a good idea to be able to attach it more securely to the bike - in that kind of situation - i.e. where you are nearby, but don't have anywhere safe to put your lid and can't be assed holding it. :-)

My wife used hers at the pre-ride meet on Sunday's IFRD - and that seemed like a good idea to me in that kind of situation.

Don't rest your lid on your seat, hang it over the higher side clip on.

You theoretically could attempt to lock it to the pillon strap so the helmet sits on the seat - not entirely sure that would work......or stay smelling fresh
