what oils should you use for a 250 ?

    Hi

Got a ZZR250 2003 model was wondering what oils should I use out of the cheaper regular oil or synthetic bit more expnesnive ?

i know with cars usual top end car you would poor the synthetic stuff but my bike is low tech

also i know mixing oils is a NO No as well as you either want the bike to have the same stuff anyways
    Cheers

Source a service manual, that should tell you what weight you need. I don't imagine a ZZR needs more than a good mineral oil, but I don't think synthetic would hurt either.

Oil for a bike costs bugger all... I have been using Silkolene oils, however got a good price ($12 or so for 1L) on some Motul stuff so will try that next. For $12-15 for a litre, and only having to use 1.1L on my 250, I wouldn't use anything other than the best oil.

Maybe mixing castor oil with peanut oil is a no no - but mixing 4-stroke motor oils is not a problem. You can make your own blend if you wish and use it without any concern.

About which bit? The castor oil or motor oil?

About the castor oil - yes (although as it happens that was used as a motor oil in days gone by)

About the motor oil - no, I am not joking.

For example, you could mix say a 15W40 mineral oil with a 5W50 fully synthetic oil and get your own blend of 10W45 semi-synthetic - no probs!

Quite aside from the fact that I am a mechanical engineer and have done my own research, I have checked with at least 2 petroleum engineers and also a friend who owns and runs an oil analysis firm - they all told me it's fine to mix motor oils.

If you find something that contradicts my point of view and reads as believeable please post the link.

What if I start using faith as a basis of my argument? Surely that makes me right then?!

I run 20w-50 in mine since that's what was in it when i got it and i got a spare 2L or so. I have Mobil 1 4T 20w50. Its $40 for 4L at Two wheel wreckers in aussie park. When its in need of an oil change i might run 10w-40 in it since its a better all around oil for Australian conditions. Ive had no troubles with 20w-50 though.
Just for people, in the gpx manual it states you can run the following oils. 10w-40, 10w-50, 20w-40, 20w-50.
