What should i get for my L's? I need some help :S.

    Hey everyone.

Im going for my L's on the 24 and 25th of March, so im very excited for doing the test and finally being able to ride a bike around with out breaching the law :S.

At the moment i'm having some difficulty trying to decide which bike i should get, at the moment these are the bikes that i am considering.

    Kawasaki 250R Ninja
    Hyosong 250R
    Megelli 250R

There is a large price difference between all these bikes.

I was curious as to what people think about these bikes in terms of someone gaining one of these for their first bike. So i wanted to take into account speed, relability, the build of the bike and all the factors which are required to note about a bike before purchasing it.

With that i would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me decide on which bike would be ideal for me to start on.

Thanks everyone and hope to hear from you soon!

I found a couple of them yet some are from 2009 obvious imports or something, but the majority of them are very old, which is a given. But are they actually very good bikes? Are they faster than a Ninja? Are they reliable? Can you still get parts for them?

but seriously man, the kwaka, while more exspensive then the other two, is better value for money. higher quality parts, possibly a longer warranty period, availability of parts would be another thing the kwaka has advantage over the other two. The only thing i can think of with the megelli and hyosung that would make them better than the ninja, is the LCD speedo analouge tacho setup. DREAMY!

Biased opinion obviously, but out of the three listed I would definitely go the Ninja. Obviously the FS section won't really help you as you are in Sydney, but works as a good guide for 2nd hand prices.

cbr250rr is the fastest 250 out there. if you are in sydney, i would recommened against this bike. you will become cop bait as soon as you get out of your driveway. Reliabilty: if the bike has been looked after, they can be fairly reliable. but definitly not as reliable as a brand spanking ninja.

CBR is carburetted, whilst im fairly certain the ninja is fuel injected, which will mean the ninja will have a better fuel economy, start first thing every morning etc.

Availability of parts for the cbr is shit. the only place ive been able to locate them is a place called 'Sumoto'

Steer clear of them. overpriced bikes, all second hand, overpriced parts, falsley advertising a 1991 model cbr250rr as a 2009 model. Steer clear.

Thats about all i can be bothered to write up now as it is 12.30 in the morning and i am getting a bit tired

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason they say 2009 model is because that is the year it was imported and complianced. the bike was still manufactured fucking ages ago though!

Thanks for that guys, also insurance is so dam expensive if i buy it through a dealer i will be able to gain a better deal on the insurance. From what i've heard i have found that the Ninja 250R is a very nice bike with a good amount of power, not very heavy and just a dream to ride. Yet the price is rather high, i managed to get the price down to $7600 on road, yet with that i need gear and i need insurance this is going to be a large amount of money. Can anyone help me out with a cheap insurance place to go to?

    Thanks everyone.

take a few rider training courses. this will perhaps get your insurance down a bit, being a safe rider and all. Im assuming you have never had insurance before, so you wont be able to hook up a multiple policy discount.

That being said, if you beg mummy and daddy, you could insure it under their name. thats what i did!

get the best gear you can, you will crash at some stage. having been up to sydney recently, i got a shock when i remembered how shit the traffic is. Just remember to ride safe, time and place (very fucking important in sydney with all the cops and shit) and have fun, bitches love wheelies and every cop you pass WILL pull you over

depending on your size the ninja would be the go, if u are taller / wider i hear the hyosong is more comfitable, but is made from lower quality parts . the Megelli looks nice but its only just arrived in australia this year i think and doesnt have a reputition to go by. the ninja 250r is currently the most popular bike sold in australia " so im told" so resale is good. ive read the hyo will start showing signs of surface rust after 12 months if not kept in an indoor location such as a decent work shop/ shed.

Hey Jordan3203 & welcome to psb,

stick with the Jap brand bikes and buy one thats less than 8 years old.
look at the condition, km's travelled & service history.
get it checked out by someone who knows motorbikes.

Ninja 250 is a good choice - stay away from Hyosung & Megelli

    checkout -Swann Insurance

I have driven the Megelli 250r numerous times, as well as the Ninja 250r.

The Megelli is single cylinder and quite unreliable (you get what you pay for), and thus the Ninja has A LOT more power in it, and will run smoother.
The Kawa is more comfy, fast, and typical.

And the Hyosung is a Hyosung..

The Hyosung or the Kawasaki. The Megelli's are flaming heaps of shit thus far.

Why do you want a 250 if you're in NSW? See here: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/...ist_100202.pdf

if funds are low u could also look at a zzr250 or a gpx250 , basicly the older models of the ninja 250. i ride a zzr250 and it gives the ninja250r a run for its money. the zzr uses the same engine but kawasaki tuned or redesigned the ninjas engine for more low/ mid range power where as the zzr250 has more high end power.

    Hey Jones...

First of all goodluck on getting the L's. He's my 2bob's worth. Your only going to be keeping it for a year, so i'd say look at an older bike and save the money and buy yourself some good gear, just had an off myself and saved my ass big time, especially the boots.
Having done lots of rides with PSB and seeing the bike on the road here's what i think. Ninja 250, one of the best looking, but sound like crap, even worse with a can on it. GPX, ZZR, all pretty much the same kind of motor, sound crap, same kind of performance. I'd look at a low k FZR yamaha or CBR honda, great sound and performance, but dont go paying more than 4k lots of examples around espically on the east coast... But depends on what kind of styling your after... Maybe also the suzuki Across, comfy as but heard it has a small tank as its under the seat, the tank is actually like a little boot.
But have a ride of them all before ya make the decision, and but the good gear...

    Good look
It's hard enough remembering my opinions, yet alone the reason why i have them.

Yea im looking for a sports bike for my first bike and i can't find any good bikes for a price cheaper than 7600, which im getting the 2010 ninja for... so honestly im not sure i can't even pick up a second hand ninja for that price unless it has 30k+ kms on it and in terms of a bigger bike im not what to look at, any ideas on a bigger bike?

Thanks for all the input i really appreciate guys and girls.
