Has anyone ever had a consultation with these fellas?
I was going to get an independent assessment of where I'm at and was drawn to these blokes because they are truly independent and not affiliated with any financial organisation selling products. They charge by the hour. You hear them on the ABC radio some times.
If you go to a regular Financial Planner from one of the finance houses like BT, AMP et all they will always recommend you sink your money into this fund and that fund ... preferably using leverage as well because they get to sell two things ... the money and the products and thus get two commissions. The prime motive is to move product. I've had my regular FP (AMP) call for the last several years trying to get me to start investing in some of the funds I have but I said no. I stopped dollar cost averaging in 2007 and have been putting the regular contributions into cash accounts since. It was the right thing to do. I don't intend to wade back into the market until later this year at the earliest. After the 87 crash the market was back at its post crash lows five years later.
