Anyone else using Magic Lantern ?
I installed it on my 500D without any dramas. Looking forward to trying out focus stack and easier HDR exposures.

Ok, I'm about to order a lens off DWI (DDP are a couple of hundred dearer, camerahouse Leederville nearly 400 without doing any bargaining) . Comments I've seen here about them seem positive. Anyone want to offer advice or an alternative before I go ahead??

im running it on my 600d, painless getting it installed, havent played an awful lot yet, so much to fiddle with, would be interesting to see how magic lantern compares for stacking against my promote control, which i also havent played enough with
also, has anyone watched any tutorial video sets, like lynda.com or onelight etc, any to recommend?
10-22 mm for $699
Edit - That's just a price of the site rather than anything I've "arranged"
Edit 2 - Wooah. If I add it to a cart it goes up to $1029. WTF!
Edit 3 - I'm an idiot, it was just all the automatically chosen extras. Going to bed now, I'm clearly too tired.

You will have postage on top of that as I assume DWI is still running free postage.

Yes, plus slightly harder/more expensive to return to the US in the event of an issue (TD). The Mack warranties were really different prices between DWI & T dimension. I'm not sold on the benefits of these though.

Just re checked TD and it looks like they ship out of HK not US. I've looked at so many sites lately I got mixed up.
Apparently they'll send a courier to pick up a warranty issue!
Which Mack warranty did you go with (sorry if you said this in a previous post, I'm using Tapatalk). Have you had previous good experiences with Mack or know others that have?

"The State must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation." Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

Funny. But the comments: omfg what a pack of... I don't know what.

im looking at getting a dslr camera but im just as interested in the video feature on them as i am in taking pic's.
do you all think its best to get a used camera that is a better model or go new entry level camera.
harvey norman have the 1100D on special atm for $486
Canon EOS 1100D DSLR Camera Black
would u recommend this , its the price id be looking to spend.
At that price point you might need to make a decision on what your main use is.. I don't know about the 1100D, but I know in terms of 500D, 550D and 600D that the 550D has much better video than the 500D, and the 600D has about the same as the 550D but the swivel screen is very helpful for taking video. For little bit more you should be able to pick up a 550D as they are also going cheap because of the "soon" to be released 650D. (Maybe someone here has the 1100D and can comment on the video quality). It is also not just the HD tag.. you need to look at the FPS it does at what quality level you want. (For example my 500D does HD, but only at 20 FPS, not 30FPS) Also you need to consider the lens that is on the SLR and if it will be suitable (that kit lens is very short focal length) and also things like the ability to refocus while zooming (while recording).. again my 500D does not do this, but I think the newer models do. Try it out in store if you can.
If video, with the occasional still photo use is more your thing, you will get much better video out of a $500 video camera. Much better zoom range, IS, controls, focusing, etc. (For example: Panasonic HDC SD90 also known as Panasonic SD90 Video Cameras and Camcorders ) Of course stills will be limited.

The 1100D is a cheap, nasty entry point unit. If you have to have a new one, get it.
Otherwise, go hunting on eBay/gumtree etc and find yourself a 50 or 60D - I reckon these are the sweet point on the Canon range - or a 500/550/600D if you really want the features they offer.

Oh yeah, the 18-55 IS lens is pretty good. I use it all the time.
