    Christmas Time Depression

Ive started this thread for all of those people who are not having a great Christmas.
Who are perhaps having trouble getting out of bed, who feel judged or put upon by family to the point they feel like giving up, or who are looking back on their year as we are all urged to do at this time and cant seem to find a reason to go on.
Christmas is supposed to be the time of family and giving, but for a lot of people its the time they most want to die. Depression can overwhelm, suicides are up and it may feel like there is no one to turn to- everything is closed and its happy season.

We have an "Are you ok?" day, I guess this is a bit of an "Are you ok?" thread.
I think there are quite a few people on here who find it easier to express themselves in writing than in person, so this thread is for you to say what you may otherwise be unable to express.

So even if you just feel a bit sad or sh*thouse, feel free to post up and know you are not alone and that there are people who care for you (even if we express it with flames sometimes).
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground...

I think the thread is a really nice idea Chaos. Christmas is really tough for a lot of people. And you can say "it's just another day" til you're blue in the face but when so many people are enjoying this time of year, and you're not, that can makes things difficult and make you feel even more alone.

This was my first Christmas without my parents, whom I'm incredibly close to. I moved to Perth from Canberra just under two years ago, and last year my parents flew here to be with me, but this year none of us could afford it. I feel incredibly lucky in that my partner's family have made me feel very much included and we spend Christmas with them. But I still missed my own family a lot.

And I always think of my brother who lives alone in Melbourne and often struggles financially and emotionally.

So yeah, I understand this time of year is really hard for so many people.

I hope anyone who is feeling awful is willing to seek out help, even if its just venting on here.

    Take care all x

This is my first Xmas without my kids after my ex took them back to the uk. I miss them a lot and am very grateful of my girlfriend keeping my spirits up.

Christmas is not an enjoyable day for many. Extended families being almost forced together when perhaps they don't have much in common. A volatile mix of overspending, excess alcohol and usually hot weather is a recipe for a some kind of felony.

I did have a bit of a sad moment on Xmas day, but then told myself to snap out of it.

This year was my first Xmas at home in 6 years due to working away every year. Ironically about three weeks ago my folks moved to Victoria, so I spent Xmas day at home alone. Funnily enough I never had a problem whilst I was at work, but being at home made it apparent it was Xmas. I didn't want to die, but it was more like "well, what now."

Luckily I had a few distractions, which made it much better. Then heaps of crew logged onto Battlefield and it made me realise that even in past Xmas's I had thought to myself, "well this is kind of shit - wish I could my own thing".

It boils down a lot to the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence - the media make Xmas seem like this utopia of awesomeness and when it doesn't live up to peoples expectations they start to wonder why.

    Thanks Chaos

That's what we've agreed, plus every 3 or 4 months, I go there or they come here.

I'll be moving back to the uk when my project here is finished in 2014, so things will be better eventually

At least flights aren't so expensive now, it makes things a bit easier. Things get better as they get older anyway, but its pretty damn hard to take the long view when you just want your kids.

They wont hold the separation against you either, I grew up in a vicious divorce and I love my Dad very much. I also have more respect for him for the way he conducted himself throughout.
And you will also most likely become the "good" parent- the one who can do no wrong. You visits will be anticipated and talked about incessantly, and you can book and do really cool stuff with them- stuff you may not have done otherwise.

Its still a very hard thing though, and it breaks a lot of people. Its not a short intense battle, its a siege. I wish you all the best, and I'm glad you have a girlfriend to help you

I've always felt abit depressed this time of the year not really for myself but mainly thinking of those that never made it to this point in the year
My partner is just the biggest trooper I've ever met tho and helps ME thru this period although she lost her mother on Xmas eve at a tender age of six, also a few years ago now her father passed away the day before her birthday. Being an only child and with most of the family in Poland there is just us an the hairy kids.
All in all it may seem difficult sometimes but I'm pretty sure their are people out there doing it alot tougher an we are.

I have 2 organs from a family who lost their son in a motorcycle accident on Christmas Day, so it's a bit of a sweet and sour day for this retard.

i am not a fan of xmas....just a huge waste of money and being forced to pass presents around....i dont go to church and havent found any credible evidence as to the existence of the reason for xmas. also was forced at the last minute to use 3 of my annual leave days as the company changed their mind last week and closed for the week.....
