    Cost of Living?

    Hey all,

Tried looking through these threads, however cannot find anything relevant

Wondering, what does it cost you to live?

Could be moving out of home and trying to gauge how much money i will have/ Need.....

Minus rent/ mortgage repayments what do you think you would need on a weekly basis?

ie: utilities, food, vehicle expenses? Pretty much list of any costs that you think you will incur when you move out of home?

    1. Drugs

    2. Women

Either way is fine, but put these first on your list or end up with cheap/shit ones.

It's gonna vary a lot. What car/bike you drive/ride. How close you are to work. How much cocaine you snort daily/weekly/annually.

I have a big patrol that is completely unnecessary for my 20km commute to work & rarely goes out 4wding. Costs me $100-120/wk in fuel. Factor in tyres, oil blah blah. It's an expensive car to run. You could run an echo, but who am I to judge sexuality

I struggle on an apprentice wage. The girlfriend actually picks the bill up a lot of the time, but in a couple of years when i'm on a better pay that will obviously change

It might not be much at the moment, but you should start by writing down EVERYTHING you buy over the next few weeks. It's also a good way to see if you're buying shit you don't need

No matter how much I claw my way up a career (and income) path, I always seem to need about 10% more than I earn.

Think it through, work out the numbers for yourself - even if you stay home it's a valuable exercise:
    - Rent - for share or whatever
    - Utilities (power, water, gas, phone, internet, insurance for your shit)
    - Health (food, drink, exercise, insurance)
    - Transport & work related (bike, fuel, insurance for your shit, servicing, rego, clothes allowance, tools allowance etc)
    - Party - work in some cash to keep you sane: pubs/meals out/hookers/drugs/carton in the fridge
    - Other shit you come up with.

It's different for everyone, you'll work out a number that suits you. Promise: when you see the total, you'll shit bricks

    Rent 150 pw
    Food 100 pw
    Pertrol 50 pw
    Bills 120 pw
So lets just say 400 to 500 per week. This is just a rough calculation.

Cost of living is high esp in Perth and things go up all the time.

    Good luck
    out of order

    That's very open ended...

Do you like mince or fillet steak?

Will you buy drinks or have water from the tap?

    Only you will know...

Take a field trip to the supermarket and work out what you will eat...

very open ended, my current cost of living is somewhere around $2500 per week all told but that would be ridiculous to use as a guide, if i had to i know i could live on around $300 per week with a shared rental of $100 per week because i have done it before.

cost of living depends on standard of living.

My parents are going to move out at the end of the month most probably (lol) so me and my brother have been thinking about this quite hard. Unfortunetly it is so different from people to people that the only way to get an idea is to make your "own budget" Think about everything you spent from food/ toiletries/ vehicle costs / utilities/ other expenses like haircuts/ going out.

After doing the maths moving out sucks... unless you have a good reason

Here is a bit of a guide I stumble up on.

Well I actually have some insight on this.. been living alone 4 years now. with a 2K capitol ..

Your rent/mortgage is your big hitter YOu need to put this aside first (280 pw . with any luck going down to 150~170 Pw soon)
fuel .. your not getting to work without it.. budget for it (20~40$ pw)
Insurance.. pay the krap annually and get it over and done with. its a pain (600 pa)
Water Gas Elec - i average at around 300$ for the three combined every 2~3 months!!

Now for the shit you really wanted to know about.
Food - You can live with out it (remember this). I eat out everyday.. around 12$ for dinner.. say 8$ for brekkie and 5$ for a lunch time snack . Thats $25 a day . 175$ a week. but when i do get around to shopping and doing groceries .. 35$ a week works just as well!!

Miscellaneous expenses - Hookers are expensive.. 200 p/h minimum today.. (would that be about right?? Im not sure). 50~70$ for a carton of beer.. 20$ for a carton of smokes..

    $585 Round house figure!!

Cook food in bulk. Buy a slow cooker, make some stews/casseroles and freeze in containers. I also used to buy meat in bulk and separated them in smaller quantities to throw in the freezer (stir fry meat especially). Frozen veggies are your friend too. And always have onions and potatoes in your pantry.

Tell me you asked your parents. They are your nearest information resource, they have done this themselves at some point, and (presumeably) they have your best interests at heart. Be prepared to hold off till you're sure you will not boomerang back, and be organised and try to manage it before you hit 30

Move out and discover for yourself. You tastes, preferences and appetite for risk (lack of insurance) will dictate.

$1k per week. I haz half the life of Shan.
    Its all good.
