    Does anyone pay for AVG?

Just upgrading to AVG 9 right now, was curious if anyone pays for the full version, and if so, is it any good?

AVG is shit, AVG free is useless. Might as well have your pet chihuahua scan your comp for viruses

Avast is a much better alternative.

If i was going to be paying for a virus scanner (home use) i would be getting Nortons 2010. Previously nortons has been shit, 2009 and 2010 are very good products though.

    Same here.
Have heard good things about Avast as well though.
I'll only try Norton again on someone else's budget and machinery.

    Yes, but why?

I understand all you Henry Pattersons' that want to rubbish avg, but you're not really giving much info to those who currently use it and have had no problems..

merctom: that's a strong call, it will take a lot to convert people back to Norton, after how shit it has been for many years.

I'm not game enough to try, happy using AVG

I find that AVG doesnt necessarily pick up everything all the time by itself, but scanning with Malwarebytes seems to kick AVG into gear, and they sometimes set each other off about nasties. Havent had a virus for years, but then I dont open the stupid things like I used to.
Got a free copy of Norton 2009 gaming edition a few weeks ago (legitimate!), might give it a go once the 30 day trial of AVG premium is up.

Been using AVG for years and no problems so far. Better than Norton and Mcafee. Downloaded latest full version from btjunkie for free with 10 year license....

Im not so sure about that any more. i used to use AVG but when it went to V8 it was crap, slow and bogged my system down as it was a pretty hungry app. So I went to Avast.... All good, or so I though until just recently. I dont know if there was an update or something recently but now I have memory leak issues on both my machines running it. My memory usage now goes through the roof if I leave the PC running for a while.

Might have to look at AVG again.

I find the Avast interface to be very annoying. last time I tried it I couldn't figure out how to set it to do regular scans (apart from when my screensaver is running).

I prefer Avira. Free. Very good scanner. Low resource requirement. Fully configurable scheduler.

To answer the OP's question, no, I don't pay for it. I use Free. I think it's great. It's found numerous things that other software has also found. No false positives as far as I can see.

If you want to read people's opinions on software, check out what CNET Download.com thinks of them. There are also user's ratings that you can get a pretty good idea of the software you're checking out.

I've used Avast on systems from XP through Vista and now Win7... never any issues, and after getting it free for so long I bought a 3yr subscription for PRO.

Runs great, haven't had any virii on any of the 10 Laptops\PC's I have here running, low overhead and great protection, easy to use, and never been infected, though have received numerous alerts from infected files\emails.

Maybe because AVG never found the virus....
