dwtk: Purchasing whiskey on holiday....post or carry?

Dear PSB brainstrust and fellow alcohol enthusiasts.

Heading over Scotland soon and will no doubt end up with more than the 2L duty free limit in goodies to bring back for myself and others.

    1) Would you post bottles back home as you go?
    Or
    2) Just bring back bulk in the suitcase and pay the duty when you come back thru customs?

Don't post to starfish, if you want any left when you get home
(or to me for that matter)
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

i'd get the distilleries to post the whisky for you.
(That way packaging and breakages are their fault, not yours : )

My experience was that the distillery (for me, the Glenlivet) would not post for you unless you bought a case. YMMV

For the highland stuff it's well worth a visit to The Whiskey Shop in Dufftown - they had an awesome range, at good <gulp> prices - and they are forever posting stuff away without a drama.

Was just thinking the odd bottle here and there. Posting it myself at the local PO. (?)

good tip to post to multiple locations. I got stung posting too much to myself and ended up having to pay duty - not a cheap exercise.

post some to your dad, some to joe blogs nextdoor etc, all marked as "gifts" of course.

If you have some left over, or that you don't like, I should inform you that it must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, i.e. by passing through an organic filter before entering the sewerage system.

I am happy to help out in this regard.
