    Firefox 8?!?!

Is there a monthly release cycle of major upgrades?

Dunno - but I wish they would work on it's speed (updating to FF8 now - so maybe this could be it)

Compared to Chrome - it just seems slow, I now prefer IE9 over it...

    9 beta is out

but yeah, firefox have lost the plot. the ONLY advantage firefox has over anything else is extensions. which now break every 6 weeks when they bump version number.

firefox still has proxy detect bugs that have been open since 2006. someone even submitted a patch to fix it... they're too busy fucking with the new shiny to actually make a browser that works. chrome also had one of the same bugs (DHCP WPAD). i submitted it to chrome devs and it was fixed in 6 months. not 5 years and counting....

for what its worth, i'm addicted to safari on the mac. which also works quite nicely on windows too, now.

Safari was hacked in 5 seconds at the last pwn2own challenge, firefox and chrome were the only 2 browsers to come out unscathed.

    1. new version of safari (released after pwn2own) has proper sandboxing. firefox does not
    2. in reality, exploits for safari are not even on the radar for people trying to rip you off. the market share of safari on PC is minimal (its not worth targetting an exploit at it), and on the mac, the app doesn't run as root anyway so even if you can break out of the sandbox, you've still got to prompt the user for credentials to do anything to the OS.

given 1 and 2 above, i am totally willing to run the gauntlet for the coverflow history/bookmarks and gestures (on lion).
