Flickering lights bulbs when humid (house)

    Hello wise psb-memebrs!

Noticed that in the last month or so my light-bulbs keep flickering, every few minutes or so. Would go a bit darker for a second or two and then go back to normal. I never really noticed it before, happens with my bed lamp as well as the main ceiling lamp, its definitely humid inside, could this be affecting it?

The one in my bathroom does the same thing.

If so, is there a way to fix this issue? Buy different type of bulbs or something? Just standard screw-in light bulbs.

Bit paranoid that this could cause some more serious issues?

    Thanks.

Do you have a decent size aircon going at the time??? If so turn it off and see if the lights are still doing it. If it goes away then its almost certain it is as the compressor is cutting in. Talk to an zircon dude about getting a soft start put on to minimise it. It probably still won't totally eliminate it though.

It could also be mains related - I think I remember you live on a duplex block (I may have you confused with someone else).

If its hot and humid - chances are a lot of people in your suburb are turing on aircons. One of the things you can do is pop over to your neighbours and see if they have the same problem.

WHS^. Also give Western Power a call as it might be a transformer in your area that's causing a problem.

I do have aircon but its in my living area so i just use a fan in my bedroom, turned it off as well to see if it makes any difference, it doesnt.

Ifs a free standing house Harro.

I normally do not use lights during the day but turned them on this morning to see, no flickering, so only happening in the evening when it gets very hot so the theory of people using aircons in the suburb sounds about right.

Will give western power a call on Monday too and see what they say.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Old house?

Could be a voltage drop from loading (A/C's etc) as others have said, but only in humid weather is a concern. Talk to Western Power about their consistency of supply in your area. If they have no answers you may need a sparkie to check for faults in the house.

    Well,

The person i spoke to on western power end was actually very helpful.

The are going to get an engineer to have a look and if its something obvious (old equipment etc) then they would simply fix/repair it.

If nothing obvious found then they are going to use some data gathering devices to collect stats etc and take it from there.
