    Food Inc

Has anyone seen it? I just saw it then and loved it. Especially since it's empowering, in that you can make a difference without much effort, which is perfect for most people.

Some things that I found interesting:
    • Patenting soy beans/seeds.
    • Companies controlling poultry farms via contracts, threatening farmers with termination of those contracts if they don't upgrade their equipment when asked to.

Great movie which makes a compelling case that the way the food industry is run in terms of nutrient quality and ethics isn't good for society and simply isn't sustainable. In short it explains how the system is broken, how effectively that the veil of deception is being kept over the eyes of consumers, and how people can take back control.
    Well worth your time.

The lack of response is very interesting... maybe because the title wasn't that attention grabbing... maybe because no trailer was put up (I'll put one up in a sec).... but I think a big part of the reason is so many people are still caught up in themselves and their own lives that social issues and causes are not a priority on their radar. Not that people have any obligation whatsoever to look at social causes, plus I know we contribute as a PSB community, and thats awesome.

Still very interesting lack of response, especially considering its a hugely important issue in terms of healthcare and the environment.

Lack of response = too many competing causes and issues all requiring attention? Or maybe its just all too hard?

Where did you see it MBC? DVD release? TV?

There's a link a few messages up, should you want to watch it online. You'll have to take out the (dot) etc and replace it with the appropriate full stops and back slashes.

Why make it harder than it already is to see - and then turn around and comment that people aren't bothering???

    I love a good steak.

I watched about half of this sensationalist piece of claptrap bullshit a few weeks ago.. I might go back to watching the second half if I feel so inclined.

Not at one point during the documentary does it suggest not eating meat.

Sensationalist how? Do you think it's fair that a patented seed from a neighbouring farm lands on another farm growing unpatented seed, the company that owns the patent has the right to take legal action against the farmer?

Are you saying that it is presented in a sensationalist manner? Because it hardly is...

    Re: Food Inc

I watched this last night. It was a good informative film. Funnily enough I agree wholeheartedly with the premise and plot etc, but it didn't stop me eating maccas for lunch.

    It's a mad world.

Monsanto is the devil. Corn is a nightmare. Eating meat is an unholy sin. Food in the US is basically controlled by 4 evil companies. That's not new to me.

It was good. Most people don't know this stuff but I've been researching the food industry for the last 9 year.

You couldn't be more off base. If you like a good steak than it is actually a valuable piece of information for you. If you value a quality, sustainable meat industry. If you like a good bit of Maccas processed horror then maybe you shouldn't finish it.

Shit, i don't eat meat but I don't go slagging off every farm doco out there. I'm more interested in sustainable farming that with taking away your rite to eat meat. This one is about as unbiased as they come. I don't see how anyone could confuse it with senationalism. Maybe it just seems that way because the FACTS are so shocking.

But do you disagree with the patenting in the first place? I think it's fundamentally wrong to have that kind of power over life.
