    guitar lessons for personal training?

hey all, i have decided to take up the guitar....after many years of saying....man i wish i could play the guitar.
if anyone out there is a guitar teacher and would be interested in trading for some personal training sessions (yes i am a personal trainer) than i may be interested to see if we can strike up a deal...
    cheers!
    pete
p.s. my finger tips are killing me right now...gotta work up those calluses!

i'm not a guitar teacher just a trained musician so i'm not offering my services but if no one responds what you should do is to check out the steve vai 10 hr guitar workout.

it covers all the basics from finger exercises (to build up strength, speed and accuracy) to some of the more advanced techniques plus it shows you how to tailor these exercises to your own personal style.

just google for it its avaliable in lots of places

and just to clarify you may find articles that refer to it as the 2 or 5 hour workout but it's the exact same thing.

i'll have to +1 that macca. Finger, ear and brain exercises like in the Vai workout are exactly what you need when you first start out, but remember to learn a couple of easy songs and riffs to keep you motivated.

i have no official teaching qualifications, but been in bands since i was a kid, and in a somewhat succesful one now, got about 17 years playing experience. physical training sounds like a fair swap. PM if you're interested.

yeah i completely agree i got all of that through my proper musical training (i.e. piano, TEE etc) and it is incredibly useful plus it helps to get you into good habits since as we all know bad habits die hard

I do not mean to pry, but you don't, by any chance, happen to have six fingers on your right hand?

Translation to the above: I can mash buttons in a computer game that makes people think they can play guitar.

Boxx, I have no illusions about my real guitar playing skills... apparantly my comedy skills need to be dusted off and given a good whack though.. or maybe I shouldve included a '/tic' for those that struggle to follow along when im being facetious.

When I go traveling I'm taking my electric. Unbolt the neck from the body so I can carry both in a smaller bag. But I wouldn't do this a lot. If the bolts fed into metal thingos implanted into the neck that would be fine, but I wouldn't keep screwing unscrewing into wood.

the fuckers speed their recordings up but i dont let that stop me
PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.

    hey all, again.
I have been practising basic chords for the last week and just bought the fender tuition DVD from kosmic. Im up to the 2nd stage and starting to play some basic tunes.
the fkn D chord is killing me though cause i still cant train my brain to make my fingers do things upside down..im sure guiter people will understand what i mean then. and the little finger wont do what its told....Its fun though and i do at least 30 mins everyday and my fingers are sore as fark!
    Lovin it! YAY

Yeah I have been playing for years my pinky is still a little fukt when i play somethings. Keep practicing and you wont even have to think about it.

Just cycle through the chords you know in random orders that will help you get better at them. I know nothing about it but tafe to a short course in guitar playing. a lot cheaper than private lessons and probably straight to the point. Have a look through the tafe website.

What kind of music are you into?

EDIT: What kind of guitar are you rockin?
