    Which Gym are you at?

Hi all, in light of Barfridge's recent thread, (and if its in the fitness megathread mods please delete),
Which gym are you at and why?
    Recommendations on the gym (likes/dislikes)?
How do you find it equipment wise?
    Your level of Gym ability?
    Availability of equipment etc. etc.

As far as gym ability goes, im getting there, I have been going fairly hard for almost a year now and am relatively confident that i have the correct form with most of my exercises, and am happy with the way my routines have evolved so far.

Ill start with Bailey's Southern River (was there late last year)
Crazy busy at peak times (obviously),
Started going here for convenience and the large cardio deck which was fine but not good for weights IMO
Fairly new equipment but too many annoyances, noone packing up their weights, no gym etiquette at all and like i said no idea how to do exercises correctly, a crazy PT who was annoying.
I would say it has fairly good group classes, but is overpriced in general, not great opening hours either. Bad gym culture, the PT's were generally unhelpful

Before that i trained at the Curtin Uni Gym, (as a noob) and it was quite good with reasonable prices, i would have got more from there if i knew what i was doing while i was there.
Big Gym, Plenty of equipment and reasonable opening hours. Good for people that know their stuff, mainly hardcore guys. I have heard that the visiting Rugby nations/teams train here when they are in the state. Good gym culture, clean and the PT's knew their stuff.

I'm currently at the gym underneath somerset pools in vic park, suits me as its close to work, and opens earlyish in the mornings. It is pretty small although has enough equipment for most, can get busy but doesn't phase me as i don't go in peak times. Good gym culture and helpful PT's.

*Hopefully this thread will help people to find training partners, or ask for help from PSB'ers that go to their gym.

I go to Surge Fitness in Clarkson
Fairly new setup, all the treadmills/runners ets were upgraded only a month or so ago.Treadmills/orbitals/walkers/cycles all have ipod thingys built in so now i can charge my ipod while working out, all volume controls and track selectors on the machine to make it easier while working out. They have some new exercise bikes with handlebars that turn and a screen that plays some mountain biking game, which makes time go a bit quicker and work harder to reach a better time.

As for free weights/ weight machines, they have a set of everything in the general area, than a sectioned off bodybuilding area for the super keen. ladies have there own gym off the side if they feel intimidated.

Peak hour can get a little busy, but ive never had to wait long for a machine.

Always have PT's walking around making sure people clean there shit up.

Plenty of classes if your into that thing, all except Zumba are included in your membership

And i dont know what the average price is for membership but im paying $16/week for unlimited use, and access to all the classes. Plus if i recommend someone they chuck a $50 credit on my account to be used at the suppliment store or for drinks etc

I spent about a year going to jetts gym(rivervale and applecross) and found it pretty good, but i found it hard to get on the treadmills and free weights at peaktimes. So in the end i decided to setup a home gym and am loving it, and it only cost me a few hundred to get all the basic weights a a few benches ect .

I have 1 session a week in Fitness First Perth, and about 4 at work at Boddington gold mine. I am a member of Jetts but my roster changed so i don't get much of a chance to use it. Its cheap though so its not a problem.
at 3.30am and 5pm Boddington camp gym is great. After those times it fills up though.

    Next Generation Kings Park.

Cardio equipment is fairly new and has inbuilt TV's with free to air and some foxtel channels (sports, music etc). Bucket load of equipment so never have to wait even at peak times. Weight equipment is good enough for my needs. Other pluses is the roof top pool in summer, the cafe and no muscle bound boof-heads grunting in front of the mirrors. Also opening hours are excellent from well before Im awake in the morning till usually after Im asleep at night during the week and very good opening hours over the weekend. Only real downside is probably the price.

South lakes leisure center. Its a dingy little gym (compared to the last three I was at) with worn down equipment from the 80's that will leave rust marks on you clothes, this has the advantage of keeping posers in their fluorescent sports outfits away. Facilities include a water fountain and a bag rack so all that is left is to get straight down to business.

Was a member of Healthy Life in Whitfords.
Excellent equipment, never too busy & very reasonably priced.

I'm not sure what the OP meant by gym culture, as i'm much happier being left alone than patted on the arse by other people at the gym.
I'm also not sure what the OP meant by being one year in and happy with their form. I've been going to the gym for nearly 14 years and I'm still learning better ways to lift heavy stuff. Never disregard PT's if you're only a year in.

Either way if you're in the vicinity of whitfords city, Healthy life is well worth a look-see.

Since had to find somewhere else closer to the cbd after moving and it IS A FUCKING PAIN.
I've found nothing nearby that comes anywhere close (besides the central tafe gym) to having half the reasonable equipment for anything less than double the price.

I'll take recommendations for gyms near leederville/subiaco/northbridge that have a proper bench press/squat rack, car parking and cost less than $25 a week.

@ Maxo, gym culture as far as no teens just going and looking at themselves in the mirrors, thinking they are massive, chatting up girls, basically taking up equipment for no reason, not there to gym properly. Also people know what they are doing, are willing to help if need be and the PT's are helpful and friendly.

with regards to the PT's, the one i referred to was just an idiot, tried to chat up every girl that walked into the gym, constantly lifted up his shirt to stare at his abs in the mirror and also talks like "oh yeah boi lift it nice and good like"

Also in terms of form, i know im a noob and im sorry if it came across as arrogant, but what i meant was that im getting to the point where i feel im working the right muscle groups with increasingly limited chance of injury (through bad form) i am nowhere near perfect. I also feel like the exercises im doing are working although im more than happy to take pointers from anyone (who knows what they are talking about).

    Gotcha. Makes perfect sense.

I re-read my comment and it was fairly shitty, so apologies
If anyone mentions gym's around me at the moment i start ranting. It'll subside when i find somewhere good.

This is my gym. Its ok for me as I do shift work and can get there during the day thus not many ppl there. I had a PT for like two months waste of money, lost prob 2 kg. Changed my diet and go there when I can loss 12.5kg
This gym needs better opening times and I think next time ill go with Jetts.

Did your Pt push you to change your diet?

If the PT didnt suggest that and give you a diet plan from day one then I agree they would have been a waste of money. Any Pt that doesnt do that doesnt deserve your money.

SCGH Hospital Gym, only an option for staff and students though. Cheap and 24h access. Small gym but has all the essentials, especially since the only pieces of equipment I spend any great degree of time with are the power rack, bench press, chin+dip bars, and free weights.

The culture side of things is good, people put their stuff away and are generally courteous. The only issue is that an occasional well-meaning but ill-informed physiotherapist might try to tell you not to deadlift because "it's bad for your back" .

The only thing missing in my opinion is some bumper plates.

Also, +1 for Fighting Fit like Diddles posted.

Lords Gym, Subiaco. $240 per 3 months (discounted, $270 normally)
Sweet for me as it's on the way to work, so I'm hitting the gym at 7am in the morning.
Enough equipment for anything you can think of, although I cannot speak for the place at peak times.

Best part is with the membership is access to the gym and group fitness.
So I charge in after my workout and do a few laps then off to work (IT... yay) but if so inclined you can do the boxing/ yoga and all that jazz
