Woke up this morning to find my computer refusing to turn on. Everything powers up in the box, but no power to keyboard and mouse, and no output to monitor, not even the gfx card test. There's also no beep code from the mobo, so my assumption at this stage (having tried different RAM sticks and HDDs) is that either the gfx card is dead or the mobo is dead.

Would really appreciate any learned opinions. Thanks.

    setup:
    Asus 8AN-E
AMD X2 4200+ (stock speed atm)
    2GB Mushkin DDR400
    Seagate 300GB SATA 2
    Leadtek GeForce 7800GT
Top end 750W PSU (can't remember the make of the top of my head)
    DVICO TV card♠

Has it got an onboard graphics card? try removing the GeForce and plugging the monitor cable into that.

No onboard gfx. Haven't tried another gfx card yet, have to borrow the neighbour's. That comes tomorrow on my light uni day. Reasonably sure it wasn't storm damage, although I suppose I can't be sure. Praying like hell its the gfx and not the mobo. Then i can go get a dx10 card instead of hunting down a very ellusive socket 939 mobo

Rip everything out and try again. Add one thing at a time if it works. If your not getting POST beeps, chances are it's the mobo or atx power circuit.

was planning on doing that tomorrow in daylight, but then remembered getting some interesting errors from the TV card recently. Yanked it and now all is good. Seems faulty tv card was stopping absolutely everything else from working.

Defintley sounds like a victim of a power surge, youll need to replace modem as the BIGFELLA said or the power supply.

Dad lost a whole home office full of equipment once because he forgot to use a surge protector.

slightly off topic, but with todays day and age of every room having expensive gadgets, isnt there a surge protector you can get for your whole house?

i wouldn't put the graphic card in ... if the 1st one burned then the 2nd one will ... , check for LEDs on the motherboard or something, yeh like other say power, u'd have beeps for wrong ram, u took out the HD, the HD can freeze whole pc, if u confused master/slave with other devices, easily done ... no beeps / POST
check the power supply with the volt meter? (the output on the motherboard ...) check the fuses, in the power supply ...
    good luck
