Interstate traffic infringements on a WA licence

I have tried to google it , but am unable to get a clear answer on my suspect performances in the NT, so am hoping someone here has any experience with

Was in Darwin for a few days and I may have run a couple of red lights , an orange light [illegal in the NT] , and a couple of speeding fines.

All the infringements were done in literally one event [red light cameras].

I won't bang on that the lights/road/ whatever, were fucked , so I will just admit that I was not riding to the conditions at the time.

What concerns me is not that I have to pay a rather large fine , but more if the demerits are transferred to WA?

If they are < I am walking for the next X number of months. Can anyone inform me on what actually happens , as I need to drive back up North again soon ,and need a licence to do the job!
    Thanks for any advice....

I was done in QLD in a hire car for work about 5 years ago and paid the fine, never saw the 6 demerits on my WA d/l that they said would happen. I did get a letter banning me from driving in QLD for the next 2 months. So no big loss. If you have to go back for work and that happens it may be an issue. I'd call the dpi licensing department's in both WA and NT.

I doubt it'll be transfered over. Unless you poke your tongue out at somebody and they go out of their way to make it happen, I suppose..

I have gone through this recently in QLD...

What happens is they create a licence account for you and the points sit there...

So if you get a NT licence those points will go straight on to it...

Though the points will expire in three years so they don't sit there for ever...

I know this is true for QLD, I believe WA is the same so I expect NT is the same as well...

You obviously have to pay the fines...Its all about the money...

The issue was with red light cameras approx 50 meters apart mate! They are also integrated with an orange light sensor and speed cameras as well.
Basically I got fucked for speeding x2 and running a red x2 in one instance , and then getting the orange on the return trip!
I take full responsibilty for being a twat , however the Stuart hwy had no indication lights , so I went through on the orange , tried to speed up 2 upping on a scooter , and got pinged on the reds going about 5 k's over the limit both times.
Returning on the same route coming back , I crossed on the green , it turned orange , and I got the flash again! Faarrkk

Mate of mine made a decision to turn left from the right lane in Maylands somewhere when the light facing him was red but the green arrow for a left turn lit up. He was alone, no one else around.
Cop saw him and gave him 3 tickets- running a red light [because he crossed the front line against the red], illegal left turn from the right lane and failure to use indicator!

Hang on, how the heck is an orange light illegal in NT? That makes 0% sense. Are you meant to magically know when it's going to change?

It is bullshit but I got done for the same when I lived there a few years ago. I think it's if they see you accelerate to get through the intersection. The only reason I copped it on the chin is because they let me off of a much bigger charge. Think it was a $50 or $75 fine. Would be easy to dispute in court one would think.
    Giggity.

But that's what the red light/speed camera combos are for. Or is it an outdated law? Still makes 0% sense.

The population of the N.T. is quite small so they need more avenues for "voluntary tax" collection.

Not to mention that most of the populace don't have licences and have nothing to lose when they don't pay their fines

Uhm- yep , welcome to the NT! $100 bux and 1 point for less than 15km/h. Reckon I deserve a fine for not being psychic as well!
I got so anal that I would just pull to the curb until the light went green, bloody safe on the main Hwy in to the city!
Valid only with the cameras , but they made a killing in the first 12 months... Kunzzz

It's illegal here too. You can't just drive through orange lights. The difference is that because the idiot coppers here don't actually enforce any laws other than speeding, it has become normal for Perth drivers to gun it through an orange.

The road rule couldn't be more simple - When the light goes orange, if you can stop, you have to.

There is no offence under Australian law that criminalises the act of arriving in
Australia or the seeking of asylum without a valid visa.

You think I don't know that. My point is that there are situations where crossing the light on the orange is unavoidable, so to have an orange light sensor makes 0% in those situations.

Yeah, agreed. But it depends how its set up. I reckon the vast majority of times people go through yellow lights, they could have actually stopped. And thats the problem, they need to get people to stop when they can, rather than the current mentality of yellow light = gun it through. admittedly, I cant see how a still camera could achieve this.

There's a mile wide grey area here though regarding what is "safely". I probably stop for about half of the orange lights I catch. Of the rest, maybe half of those I could not physically have stopped for, and so going through was the only option. No problems. The other half are in that grey zone where I could technically have pulled up in time if I banged on the anchors but I didn't feel comfortable doing so for whatever reason.

Hell, I had a very close call two or three weeks ago when I stopped for an orange light (didn't even brake that hard I thought) and some douchebag behind me saw fit to scream through it, half in my lane and half in the turning lane, just as it went red. It's scary sitting stationary at the lights and having someone go past 2 feet away at 90km/h, and it's definitely biased me more towards just gunning it if there's someone behind me and the lights go orange.
I was the best, you all knew it / on the days I cared at all
You can all say I blew it / you'll be talkin 'bout me for years
