But they're different.
Concert or sporting event is a one-off event.
Not much point trying to buy tickets for the 2007 Grand Final today is there?
But last year's iphone was still for sale this year.
And dare I say, this year's iphone won't sell out, until the next model is available.
So I can't really see how the principle is the same.

It is similar... Because although they will be able to buy it later, they will have to wait up to a month. So they lined up to get it now.

marketing hype + restricted supply makes the product seem more popular and exclusive. Morons lap that shit up like a fat kid with a cake. Some companies artifically restrict supply to create consumer want, others genuinely don't have the capacity.

No offence mate, if that's the way you are thinking about it, you are only buying one to say "Oh look, I have an iPhone"

no offence taken - its pretty much true. Besides that it does plenty of cool features. Half the reason I want out is because my E65 with 3 is a piece of shit, 3s coverage sucks dick and at the moment I cannot make a call longer than 20 seconds without it cutting out. 3s customer care sucks dick as well. The shit I had to go through to get a new sim card.
Just wanna try a different carrier.
Talked to optus, if I signed up today, iPhone will be delivered August 1st.

The X1 won't be available until October at the very earliest... SE rep reckons probably closer to November/December.
And by that stage, iPhones will hopefully be cheaper!

Glad I've got a sense of humour, just today the said Macbook decided not to accept charge from the power adaptor... So once again it's out of action...
Also due to being more than 6mths from purchase I'm not entitled to phone support, even though I'm in warranty.

Also on occasions my backlight still flickers after the repair, and the casing problem was dismissed as 'normal' and they refused to accept that it didn't come that way in the box.
Their software rocks, but their hardware is the same or worse than other vendors, don't think apple = quality. Their after sales service is shocking, no other way to describe it.

She bought a mac, that's what she's doing wrong...
/trolling
Probabably just got a lemon there fin...
When I used to work in retail, we sold a lot of Asus notebooks. For the most part they are rock solid. My little bro has one, it randomly fucks up as well. Every batch is bound to have a few duds.

Hehe sorry to disappoint, i'm a he, not she.
I definitely got a lemon, I'm cool with that (though still disappointed at how many faults I had) but it's the after sales service that is shocking.
Even today when I called, they tried to convince me to buy Applecare (3yr warranty + phone support) for $419. I had to raise my voice to explain that I paid over $2k and 9mths later I still don't have a working laptop, and remind them that it's under warranty right now, Applecare or not.
I did get through to a product specialist however, he sounds like he'll try to replace it, but no promises. They've promised a callback today so hopefully they have a reasonable solution for me.
UPDATE
They got back to me as promised, and they're going to exchange mine for a new Macbook at a similar spec level (mine was the top spec black model at the time of purchase, so I will get the current top spec black macbook). My existing warranty remains, so I will probably purchase the extended warranty so the new one is covered longer than a few mths. I've had to fight for it but I'm happy with the outcome.

Reason: Apple came good with a solution.
