what are the improvements?

i think for me to get an iPhone it would need the following 3 things

1) copy and paste - thats a must
2) different text input - give people some options like character recognition like windows mobile/palm. obviously not using a stylus, but using ones finger
3) MMS

Say you have 100 employees and 50 of them are crackberry users.
You'd be paying a fair bit to have crackberries talk to your exchange servers as I understand.
Would businesses shit can all of that set up investment to go to the iPhone because they're cooler?? Even if they're easier to use at the end of the day it would come down to the $$$ surely?
Or maybe I'm thining about this all wrong...

Well for one you could get rid of that corporate crackberry server sitting in your server room and just use your existing Exchange server 2003/2007.

This would also be very appealing to companies that havent yet jumped on the crack wagon. I believe it would be a cheaper option to setup from scratch (I havent done the abacus work yet... just speculating)

How often do you actually use MMS?

It is certainly an phone...

The Touch Flow 3D interface is very cool, but slow... In fact the whole phone just feels slow/laggy when opening applications and stuff.

That is my main problem with it... It's 'laggyness'. The phone itself can certainly handle everything that you might throw at it, it sometimes just takes some time doing it.

Then again I don't own the thing, I just play with other people's and the one we pulled out of the box and turned into a demo.

This is the #1 complaint I've read about them.

That said, I'm using a nokia 6600 (remember them?) at the moment and I'm guessing there's nothing on the market which isn't an improvement over the early symbian phones in terms of responsiveness.

Also, I'll probably be steering more to a choice between the U900 (I think) and the HTC Touch Po when they get here in about 2 months, and from what I hear they may be a bit faster...

See, the iPhone isn't designed as an "old style" mobile phone, the fact people hardly ever use MMS, and the fact that there are better ways to distribute images means that it was left our of the iPhone for very good reason.

U900? Surely not... i900 maybe?Touch Pro will be better than the Diamond IMO, purely because of the tactile keyboard option and larger battery...
I' go for the Pro if it was between the Diamond and Touch Pro...

On iPhone related matters, we will be (finally!) getting some in next week and I should have mine by then.

mms seems to be implemented differently on every network, when I sent an mms using my old phone some people would just get a url to click on to view the image: useless

others would get the image on their phone, if they were lucky enough to be on the same network as me and had certain options enabled and enough credit to download the image

Padfoot - the i900 omnia is wot I mented.

Main bonus for the touch pro for me is the support for micro-sd expansion. If the touch screen kbd is as useable as the apple's I won't be needing the slideout and in fact that will annoy me because I'm carting around double-the-thickness for shit I don't want.

Diamond, faster with more RAM and expansion support please HTC.

thats most likely a configuration issue.

how much configuration should you need to do to display a tiny image that's been sent by another phone? If the answer goes beyond 'make sure your phone is on and connected to the network' then it's too much

SMS and MMS should both be flawless if implemented, turn the phone on, receive messages.

thats how it works...once configured.

how do u expect the phone to just know the server? does the email client on your phone/PC work without configuration?

Jim has a point.
Most phones are sold by the service provider.
Is it so much to expect that they can put on all their branding but not configure MMS out of the box???
